    Hello,
    
    I am new to this conference and have an unusual request for help.
    I have a friend who is interested in either renting or purchasing a
    vacant lighthouse in the New England area.  I am not sure how to begin
    this search and would like any assistance possible in finding the
    appropriate state/local offices to contact.  Also, if anyone has
    information as to guidelines on the use of vacant lighthouses etc. it
    would be greatly appreciated!!!  I'm not sure if these are used for
    historical landmarks or are available for rent or purchase.

    I believe that your friend should contact the First Coast Guard
    District in Boston---directory assistance should have it. They are
    responsible for the care and feeding of lighthouses. There is also an
    organization called (I think) The Lighthouse Preservation Society. They
    are concerned with the preservation of these historical facilities. I
    will see if I can find their address and post it here---if someone else
    does not have it.
