HI, Can we start a discussion about Loran plotters? Anybody own an Apelco dxl 6800 Loran See? I've always liked the idea of a pl- otter and Apelco is certainly a good name. What do you think? Joe D.

We purchased an APELCO DXL 6500 this year and love it. It has a
plotting menu item that actually makes a track like a road map, and
if you don't erase the track, you can follow it if you are travelling
the same route as you previously used. Great in pea soup fog.

| 734.2 | I BOUGHT TWO! | JOSHER::SCIACCA | Tue Sep 04 1990 16:50 | 12 | |
At the beginning of this season I bought a DXL6800. When I tried it out
on my boat, I found it unreadable because of poor display contrast. The
demo unit I had looked at in a store had looked fine, so I returned the
one I had bought and got another. It was just as unreadable. I called
Apelco, who said "no, there's nothing wrong with them, but some people
find them hard to read, so we're replacing the displays under warranty.
When we get new displays in, that is. In 60 to 90 days." I returned the
second sample to Boat U.S., where they told me I wasn't the first to
complain by a long shot.
I recommend waiting til next year to buy one of these.
