I won't do business with these people for more reasons than I have
time to enter. At the very least they are expensive to do business
    with.

| 701.2 | Seemed nice enough to me (the boat, that is) | JLGVS::GUNNERSON |  | Tue Jul 03 1990 12:21 | 3 |
| | My best friend bought a EBCO Monte Carlo 16-17' boat used in a private sale. It
seemed fine for a regular, not-big-money boat. I will try to get more details on
it.

After talking with some other dealers and people who have heard about
EBCO, I got the impression that they were a middle of the pack type of
boat, but pretty exspensive for what they offer. I have compared them
to some other brands (Glastron, Chapparal, Larson etc) and it seems
that you can get more for your money from the "name" brands than the
EBCO. I guess that it what you learn from shopping around.

As far as Valley Marine goes I decided that from what I hear the people
try their hardest to sell you a boat, but once you buy one their
warranty work and service leaves a lot to be desired. I know a couple
of people that have purchased boats there and have had to pull teeth
just to get some work done.

| | This is my first opportunity to enter a better reply since the earlier
    one, sorry it wasn't sooner.

First they are EBKO, not EBCO. No big deal, but facts are facts.

Second I drove my friends 165 model on the 4th of July and skiied
behind it. I liked it. The boat rode and handled very well, it came up
on plane very nicely. It was quiet and comfortable. I don't have a lot
of experience, but it was a very likeable boat. It was equiped with a 4
    cylinder 140 hp Mercruiser.

Third the materials seemed to be of pretty decent quality, it never
struck me as cheap. I could see a couple of shortcuts, but really only
minor ones. One item, the tachometer didn't seem to be reading
correctly. I couldn't believe the 5000 RPM reading for 25 MPH,
    certainly didn't sound like it.

Price/value are personnal decisions, but the Monte Carlo seems to be a
    "nice" boat in any case.

| 701.5 | Another side about Valley Marine | SALEM::MOE |  | Mon Jul 09 1990 14:44 | 23 |
| | I have the feeling that I will be in the minority, but I feel it
is only fair to hear both sides about Valey Marine. In '88 I bought
my Malibu Skier from them and found the price to be what I expected
and willing to pay for the boat. As far as service, only once did
I have a problem and that was when I took it in for the 20 hour
oil change, the temp outside was close to 100 and a young kid with
no patience was asked to do the work. Well needless to say he got
very upset because he did not know what he was doing since this
was just the second inboard that they had serviced and he left the
job, leaving me waiting for two hours not knowing that he took his
tools and quit. Since then I have been very pleased with their
work and find them to be very sensitive to keeping my boat clean
as to even put down cardboard over the carpet as not to make a mess
with the oil or any of their tools or even the dirt from the lot.
I usually call and make an appointment when I need to bring it in
and they are ready to take me as soon as I arrive. They are done
and I am ready to leave and head back home about one hour later.
This is great since I live in Salem and it takes one and a half
hours one way to get to Rindge. Just because of they way they have
treated me is the reason why I am willing to travel the distance.
So much for my two cents worth.

I also have to agree with the prior reply.Last September at the
Fall Dec Fishing Tourney my trailer broke in half and had to buy a new
one to get home. The salesman sold me a roller trailer for $50.00 over
cost (his word) and told me that if I found anything cheaper he would
refund the purchase price.I went shopping and could'nt find any cheaper
bunker or roller style in the 1800lbs class in the Worcester area.
Service wise I don't know but I would give them a try.

    My .02 cents worth
