    Jeanne...Jeanne...Jeanne..Hydostreams!

I've been into Hydostreams since I was a tadepole growing up on Long
Island (NY). Hydostream is a cut above Checkmate and even, yes even my
boat Baja - in the performance department. To drive the older
Hydrostream boats fast you needed a PhD in high performance boating.
However, over the last few years Mr Pipkorn(sp?) has been designing
their boats for the rest of us.

Remember most Hydrostream boats are detuned, and in many cases not even
detuned race boats. Their HST comes to mind. I pass a dealer in
Ware(sp?) NH, each time I go up to Lake Sunapee. There is also a dealer
in RI who is really into the performance end Hydrostreams.

Now my 17'-4" Baja will run 60-64 MPH depending on the conditions that
day - V-King, Velero, or HST, with the right engine combo will run
    60-100 MPH!

Hydrostreams are really designed for SMOOTH LAKE water. I'll try to
    contact you...

| 683.2 | So you want a FAST boat?? | TOTH::WHYNOT |  | Mon Jun 04 1990 15:16 | 16 |
| | Jean,
A friend of mine owned two Hydrostreams (he now has a Ski-Eliminator)
and they a great go-fast boats. The most recent one he had
(blue-metalflake/115 horse merc) did about 62 mph! And I wasn't even as
scared as I was in a bass-boat going at the same speed :^) Seemed like
it was pretty well constucted/even stable! He traded it for the
Eliminator and the guy who bought it added an electric jacking plate,
performance reed valves and prop and broke the 70 mph mark! This was
about an 18 footer and I forget the modle name/number. If your looking
to kick some (trailer) tires, Performance Boats of Northern New England
has a Hydrostream, a couple of Checkmates and a real nice Carlson in
their lot (as of yesterday) Their located on the 28 bypass in
Hooksette, NH. Funny, I thought you were a Mastercraft type. :^)
    Doug
Seen on rt 93 yesterday: a 13' Whaler with "Killer Whale" painted on
the transom- I thought of you and your recently departed Whaler..:^)

    Well, scratch the Hydrostream...onto a Checkmate! I'm
    not looking for a speed-boat, just a ski-boat. The
Hydro I looked at did 70MPH with the speed prop, I didn't
realize that these boats were designed for racing! It
looked like a Checkmate to me....I was supposed to test
drive this boat, maybe I will just for kicks.

The owner told me he does ski behind this boat and there
is NO wake (that got my attention)....but after getting
the facts, I've decided against the boat because of the
hull-design and the way it DOESN'T ride in rough water.

    Doug....I am a Malibu skier type! :>) my pocket-book
    isn't though....maybe in a couple years. I don't want
    boat payments right now.

    How cute...Killer Whale....why didn't I think of that?!

    Jeanne (I miss my Whaler)!

Doug....thanks for the pointer to Performance Boats... I
bought a Baja from them, it was being sold on consignment.

The people who work there are very easy/nice to deal
    with.

Cat' with the twin V-8 Outboards. :^)

Good luck with your new toy...

Thanks Guys! I'm psyched....the boat goes in the
water (for the summer) on Thursday. I'm not going
to tow with my trusty Toyota because #1, the colors
clash, the boat is metalflake brown/orange/tan, and
my car is charcoal grey, gag! :>) This rig would
never win the world's most beautiful...

And #2...I've got 3 trucks in the family!

I'm going to keep the boat on Lake Attitash (50 minutes
    from Nashua)

Any time Rick! Though I think you'd be bored skiing
behind this boat, it doesn't have a wake! :>) It's
    kind of a "girly boat"....man!
