I'm having a problem this spring with my merc 7.4l i/o running to
hot. The harder/longer I run it, the hotter it gets. So I had the
engine mounted water pump rebuilt last night. The impeller looked
ok, but the hoses had some amount of mussels. Our fear now is that
the outdrive is full of the mussels. Has anyone removed the supply
water hose while the boat is in the water? We expected quit a flow
of water at the i/o transom plate, but there was only a small amount.
I would hate to haul the boat tonight and find the the outdrive
    is clear.
The boat has only one season in salt water, the drive is a Bravo.
Has anybody heard of a drive filling up enough to cause a heating
problem? I guess they are having a similar problem on the Great
    Lakes.

    real confused...

THe Boat?U.S. newsletter i got yesterday had an article about
the mussle problem in the great Lakes- the are Striped
"ZEBRA MUSSELS" from europe- can really clog up things and
the only natural predators are waterfowl! They seem to be really making
a mess of things and have caused lots of overheating problems by
clogging up raw water intakes on boats.

They don't like saltwater, but the article didn't say wether or not
they could live in salt water.
