    I've used Slimy Grimy extensively for the last 3 years - my boat bootom
    looks like new with minimal effort! However, it's only fresh water scum
    I'm removing - but it's real bad scum! Don't know if I'd swim in the
    ocean if I got as bad scum as I get from Mass. Lakes!
    
    Where does your ad offer it commercially? I have to get my buddy to
    pick mine up at lake Winni marinas or another buddy in Maine to pick it
    up at Belgrade Lakes marina's.

    is 17'. Let me know where I can get it, or if you guys want to share

    	I'm also interested,my 16.5' boat is not that bad but I still get
    the ring around the collar,and I am always ready for an easier way to

    Well! I'm impressed!
    I hauled out the boat on Friday and cleaned it's bottom with the Slimy
    Grimy stuff on Sat. WOW! The bottom had about 1/4 in of really yucky
    slime and long green hair growing on it. ( I brush it down a few times
    during the year but hadn't used the boat in six weeks) Along with a few 
    barnacals on the shaft and rudder.
    
    I mixed up the Slimy Grimy with real hot water and sprayed it on. A
    lite brushing and off came the slime!!!

    Hey Walt, how 'bout telling us where you got the Slimy Grimy?  I'm
    always interested in trying products that will make clean up a little

    I tried it Saturday. Boat had been out of the water for a month
    and was real bad. Sprayed it on and rinsed off with a garden hose.
    NO BRUSHING OR SCRUBBING.
    
    This stuff is GREAT!
    

    Where do we get some??  Does Bliss Marine sell it?

Well I bought a "vessel" of Slimy Grimy from Walt Gibson way back last winter
and tried it on my boat for the first time this passed weekend.  Unbelievable!
It did everything mentioned in this note and more!  My boat has been sitting in
the water since before Memorial Day and it was pretty scummy.  I picked up a
garden sprayer from Sears, tossed in a couple of tablespoons of Slimy along with
a couple of quarts of hot water and just sprayed it on...and watched the slime
disappear.  As fast as I could spray the stuff on it was just melting off the
boat.  Awesome.  Only problem is that now everybody wants to squirt their boat
with *my* stuff, so I gotta find a supplier for my R.I. crew!

How about Bliss Marine?  Anybody know who carries this stuff besides the marinas
around Winni mentioned earlier in this topic?

    I do believe that I saw it at Bliss a month ago. By the way, Bliss was
    woefully un-stocked. The guy said, they'd just been "hit" by a wave of
    business. It was awful trying to find stuff there, with large holes in
    the shelves... I do remember seeing "Slimy" in the waxes/cleaners row,
    second shelf up at the right end.

|P.S. Has anyone noticed that Gilford Marina at Lake Winnipesaukee is out
|     of business, and Cadcraft Marine in Nashua is holding a "liquidiation
|     sale"?  Victims of this slow economy, I guess.
    
    I can't speak for Gilford Marina, but Cadcraft (just around the corner
    from friendly NUO, homebase for me) says they are really just moving to
    another location in Nashua. They really don't have much in terms of
    small stuff, and their "clearance" prices aren't really too great
    either. I suppose that if you're in the market for a "SS Minow"
    look-alike, you could hit it lucky there!

Hey Rick, this is the Slimy Grimy topic, not the Bliss-bashing topic!  :-)  :-)
But I do agree with you that Bliss is usually out of almost everything I need.
Perhaps you can tell us if Boat/US has Slimy Grimy?  Unfortunately, I'm not a
Boat/US member, but I'm sure *someone* in here who is a member would be so kind
as to pick up a tub or two of Slimy for me if I gave them the cash.  :-)

    I too was a bit disturbed at the inventory situation at Bliss this
    year. According to the manager, Bliss (or E & B) recently opened
    ~25 stores in the Southeast and lots of inventory had to be spread
    out. ? another story..?
    
    Where do you get this Slimy Grimy stuff anyway...I'm not concerned
    with removing any growth from my hull, the bottom paint takes care
    of that..but does this Slimy Grimy do anything to remove the brownish
    colored stains from the fiberglass hull just above the paint line???
    or will acetone do this job.?

    Well if anyone up at our Augusta plant is following this confernece,
    you might be able to get that individual to do a Slimy Grimy pick up
    for you. I got some at Brown's Marina at Great Pond. Great Pond is 15
    miles or so from the plant and Brown's is right next to the state
    launching ramp. Being a small time marina, Brown's doesn't have the
    greatest price, but even then I feel that Slimy Grimy is worth it!!
    
    Now if only Mr. Gibson was still around you could get some discount
    Slimy Grimy from him - he bought a case of it last year!!

RE: .16  That's exactly what I used it for, to remove the brown "scum" (oil &
gas).  Worked great, and didn't take the paint off.  You should be careful with
acetone, 'cuz it'll take everything with it (like wax, paint, gel, etc.) if you
rub hard enough.

RE: .17  "Gibson Marine Wholesale" ( :-) ) was where I got mine last year.  Walt
was kind enough to "procure" a vessel (or "tub" as the case may be) for me
through his manufacturer contact, but I was too late to take advantage of the
"half-price" deal he initially struck with them.  No matter, it's well worth the
price.  One tub claims to make enough cleaner to "clean a 16' boat 6 times, or a
30' boat once" (don't ask, I didn't write it, I just report it) but I'm pretty
sure I'll get more out of it than that.

    If you can't find Slimmy... you might want to try Mary Kate hull
    cleaner. I'll bet its the same stuff. I used it last month when
    I beached my boat. It worked very good, much better than bleach.
    I got mine at Baert Marine in Seabrook, (home of the nuke) NH.

2 TBS.Oxalic acid (~$2 a box) in my garden sprayer with VERY hot water does the
job.  A friend put me on to this when he purchased a brand name and oxalic acid
was the primary ingredient.

    I love it,  Boaters are gadgeteers, it happens with Teak Oil,
    
    Waxes, Cleaners...  the folks who make these use basic chemicals
    
    put them in a fancy package and promote to us "suckers"..
    
    I have been bit many times...   i'm not pointing a finger.
    
    There are some items, like fuel preservative, i can't find
    
    a substitute for.
    
     Want a cheap bilge cleaner,  pour a cup of Spic and Spac
    
    in there, and leave it, works just as good..

     I purchased some bottom cleaner a while back (I Think it was MRC or
    Star-Briet) that worked great- it was about $6 for a pint that you
    mixed with water. I got checking the label as this stuff was toxic-
    contents were "Hydrogen Chloride"--an alias for hydrochloric/muriatic
    acid! I now use a couple of ounces of muriatic acid in a bucket of
    water, wet down the hull, and apply the solution with a wooden handled,
    synthetic bristle "dingy brush), wait a few minutes and hose it off.
    I wear rubber boots and gloves , as well as goggles, even though it is
    a very mild solution. (it will do wonders on cotton, though).
    
    I now have purchased an all plastic garden spayer I'll start using and use it
    with hot water. Oxalic Caid would probably be very similar.
     
     I also mix up some baking soda in water and spray the ground under the
    boat after I'm done to Neuralize any residual acid .
    
     A little bit with some minor scrubbing works great- just have to watch
    any bare metal such as dings on the outdrive and really rinse down the
    trailer. I hauled my boat Wed nite and have lots of green grass that
    won't come off- but this will clean it in nothing flat.
     
     I've found lots of "boating" stuff that is simply  common chemicals
    that are repackaged and marked up.

    Jim... COnsumer products users get 'suckered in' as well by
    manufacturers who take common chemicals and repackage them at
    inflated prices.  Spic and span is a great example of perfumed
    TSP (tri-sodium phosphate) which is generic and avaiable cheap at 
    most hardware stores.
