    	The most popular use I've seen for these brackets is to 
    protect the transom from a bouncing outboard motor. I'm not
    sure what the benefit would be for an I/O.

|  |     I would think the force of the water push on the lower unit would
    be much high than the possible bouncing on the road. I trailered
    my chris w/ a 230 i/o and never had a problem. Also the nice thing
    about hydrolics is the fluid provideds a cushion.

    I've hear this same statement made when I asked about the bouncing
    up & down of an outboard hanging off the transom while being trailered.
    
    I was told by this guy (who trailers his 24' Grady White regularily)
    that he allows his motor to rest on the tilt mechanism and has not
    had any problems.

    The fluid is essentially incompressible and does not act as a cushion.
    Any air entrapped in the system might do so...
    
    I have looked at these brackets for I/O's and for outboards, and
    have decided that relative movement between boat and trailer could
    cause as much or more stress on the transom through the support
    as from the engine hanging free.  I think they're a placebo.
