| I know you can ski above the dam on the Manchester, Hooksett line.
as far as I know its fairly deep stay near the center if your unsure.
Lately I see people out there every night. There is a spot in Hooksett
to launch your boat, and I think there's a place near Intervale Golf
course that can be used but I think they charge. The one in Hooksett is
free but the only hard part is the channel under the bridge. I hear you
have to stay in the center or the prop eating rocks will get you. But
after that its clear cruising.

| I have seen people skiing on the Merrimack in Lowell just
above the Falls, across from the U. Lowell South Campus. I
can't vouch for water quality or prop-eaters though.

| You can ski above the dam in Hooksett as well as below it. The lower
section, from Hooksett to the dam in Manchester, is clear except
for section under the bridge described in a previous reply and is
much longer than upper section. There is ramp in Bow on Johnson
Rd. off of Rt 3A. from this ramp, it is generally clear down to
the Hooksett dam, though the east side is fairly shallow. You can
go north from the ramp to the power plant. I don't usually go any
farther except when the water is high, though some do (some have
very ragged props, too).

There is a prop eater right behind Middlesex Power and Marine
in Tyngsborough, it seems to answer to the name
"Hey,_lookat_THAT_boat_up_there !". Its nesting place is in a direct
line with MP & M's ramp, right in mid stream, must be less than a foot
from the surface in May/June. Their ramp is angled to the river,
its in line with the centre line of their ramp, i.e. NOT 90 degrees
across from it but on a line out along it, maybe its an old road
or ramp (?).

Hi guys,
Is there any other part of the merrimac that is skiable
between lowell and nashua? I am interested because I may be getting
access in the future in the tyngsboro area and I am not sure I would
want to go all the way to lowell to ski.

Yes,
there is a nice ski spot just around the first bend
north of the Tyngsboro bridge... Althought the water level must
be taken into consideration, if it's low I'm told there are a
few hazards.

thanks rick,
how far is the merrimac navigable? I know the
dam at lowel stops you in that direction, what about heading into
N.H.? Also besides the rocks in tyngsboro are there any other
bad hazards to watch out for?

See 165.1... and the rocks "north of the bridge" I refer to
are north of this skiing area i mentioned...

I was out last night on the upper section (Lowell, above the dam)
of the river and there is plenty of junk, but it's still navigable.
One pass to check on junk locations and we had the river to ourselves.
Boy, the heavy silt in the water really slows the ski down!
