Well, when I travel I usually find that I can never get just the choice
of musical entertainment I'd really prefer via the on-board airplane
headphones. Hence I always travel with my own `Walkman' cassette player
and a quantity of audio cassettes. I suggest then either a `Walkman' or
some cassettes if the person already has a `Walkman' ..or even a gift
voucher your friend can redeem in the form of a selection of either
at a local stereo store.

I just this weekend picked up a travel log in a nice bound book
form (small enough to pack) in case my mother takes her cross
country trip that a friend wanted to share with her. It has
lines for places and when you saw different things and comments
to make. Would keep memories of trip/s now and in the future
readily available.

Another gift idea is a nice photo album/scrap book to put trip
photos and mementos in after the trip.

flash). They take awesome pictures!

A small amount of currency for each country she/he is to visit.
An up to date currency conversion chart.
Rain poncho.
Tiny collapsible umbrella (the really small ones are relatively new).
Leather luggage tags.
Travelling sewing kit.

My father bought one of those last winter and showed me one of the pictures.
I was a little disappointed. The clarity was comparable to that of the cheapest
cameras on the market, and the image angle was equal to two 35 mm photos side
by side, not as wide as I had hoped for. In most cases one could do better by
taking two 35 mm photos and putting them side by side in an album. Of course,
you would have a gap between these pictures in this case and they might not
line up perfectly.
One of these cameras would still make a fine travel gift for most people.
I just don't want people to get false expectations about what these cameras
can do.

You should see some of the gorgeous pictures I have taken with those
cameras...people have been oohing and aahing over them. Possibly it
was the development that was bad?

Could be. I hadn't thought of that. He bought and used the first one while in
Fla. for the winter. If he tries it again, I will suggest that he go to a
different store to have them developed (which he will have to do anyway if he
does it while they are up here).

| One thing I've found is that a really sunny day is needed to get a
good picture with them. The photo is a bit grainy, you wouldn't want to have
it enlarged a great deal, but I've also "panned" with my 35 mm and put
pictures together and have not been as satisfied with the results as I have been
with the disposable panoramics. Of course it would help if I used my tripod
when I do this, I usually don't want to bother lugging it around while sight-
seeing! My next step will be to get a "real" panoramic camera, I've been
keeping my eye on them for a while.

Hi,
I also took some great shots with the disposable throw away. They are
perfect for some things like Niagara Falls and the Grand Canyon where
the scope is just so large!
Oh and Lola, the last Nikon 35mm camera I bought came with a little
plastic slide you put over a regular roll of film that 'makes it take
panoramic shots'. Better quality but once you start a roll as
panoramic you have to finish it!

/jen, as I just wrote to Holly, there are alot of different "panoramic"
cameras out there. Some just frame the negatives so they're in the panoramic
format. I bought a camera like that and returned it. I have seen a camera on
QVC (a home shopping channel) that can be switched from normal mode to
panoramic mode during the roll, back and forth etc, and is truly a panoramic
shot with a really wide angle. It costs about $150, but I can't remember the
make. I'll pay attention next time I see it, heck I think I'll order it next
time I see it! I've bought almost enough disposables to pay for it by now!
