| When you say VB5 is now available do you mean the full version of VB5
or VB5CCE (VB Control Creation Edition)? Here in Europe only the CCE
version is available in the standard ways via the MSDN or free download
from the Microsoft web site. The CCE is just a tool for creating Web
Custom controls. It is not a full VB5 kit. Of course the VB5 beta is
also available on the MSDN, but I suspect you weren't wanting to use
beta software in a production environment.
I suspect that if your need is urgent you should get VB4. If you can
wait 6 months until the full VB5 is out and evaluated then that would
be a better time to make a decision.

I suggest you check out Microsofts home page. VB5 Pro
released last week.
If you want to support 16-bit apps, I'd suggest keeping a
copy of VB4 around.

| Strange. I had heard that VB5 and many other software development tools
were officially going to be introduced March 19th.
Yes, for supporting 16 bit applications, VB4 can be used (I've heard
that VB5 will not support them), but I've found the 16 bit version of
VB4 to be somewhat unreliable, and would suggest VB3 instead.

| I just called Microsoft a few minutes ago asking for price and
availability of the new VB5, and was told that it wouldn't be available
until the middle of next month - and the price would be set at that
time.
So, VB5 is only partially available: the specs are now officially
available but the product is not.
