I heard on the news this morning that a plant that makes a type
of rayon thread used in the manufacture of the nose cone of the
SRB's is discontinuing production or closing. There are no other
suppliers for this component and the report said that it could delay
the shuttle program by as much as two years. Let's hope it gets
started up again before it's completely dismantled.

I saw a short item in the Boston Globe yesterday that indicated
that the plant in question was being restarted. Apparently the
government (military and NASA) made some kind of committment that
made them happy.

I've heard reports of other sole suppliers of raw materials
for the Shuttle program are going out of business. Apparently
NASA has committed to studying this problem.
