    Hi,
    
    I am on the NT/Backoffice Team, and we deal with TCP/IP pretty
    regularly, but not with FDDI networks involved. I tell you this up
    front so I may not have all the information needed for this topology
    but here goes.
    Customer has 2 NT Servers running NT 3.51 Service Pack5 on Alpha
    systems. 1 system is called Ring1 and other is Ring2.
     When the user does a backup of one system to another, they
    noticed that when Ring2 is backing up according to their sniffer, it
    has Ring1's IP address. What could be causing the FDDI network to get
    confused?

I doubt that Ring1 is using Ring2's address.  Confusion like this is
usually in the interpretation of the sniffer data. 

It is easy to explain the apparent traffic pattern if, say, Ring1 is 
backing up a disk which is connected on Ring2.  Then even though you 
are backing up Ring1 the data appears to come from Ring2.

Find out more specifics about exactly what is failing:

	What is the command line that causes the failure?
	Does the backup actually work?
	Do the addresses "come back" when the backup is done?
	Does ping work when a backup is in progress?

            Does ping work when a backup is in progress? Yes
    Mac address on Ring 2 would claim his address on Ring1. Ring2 thinks it
    is Ring1.
    The customer is pretty insistent that RING2  is reporting a wrong MAC
    address. they tried this on 2 other machines, and it does the same.
