2035.0. "DECnet reachability problem" by DEKVC::SEUNGJOOSON () Wed May 08 1996 00:24

Hello,

I am suffering the curious DECnet reachability problem on the FDDI/Ethernet
network. I'd like to share with your ideas and experiance if you have.

             +----------+ +------------+

              | | | |

                      | |
                    vax3 vax4

GS : GIGAswitch/FDDI
DEF6x : DECconcentrator 900MX
All vax systems are DECnet Phase IV with the same decnet area. vax1 and vax2
have only one FDDI adaptor(no ethernet interface), and vax3 and vax4 have only
ethernet interface(no FDDI interface).
Cisco 7000 : Routing for IP and IPX, and bridging for other protocols including
             DECnet.

DECnet communication works well between vax1 and vax2, and also between vax3
and vax4. But vax1 can not reach onto vax3 and vax4, vax2 can not reach onto
vax3 and vax4, and vice versa. However, all IP communication works well among
all vax systems.

Cisco 7000 : Version 10.2(2)
FDDI interface is; Encapsuation SNAP, ARP type SNAP
Ethernet interfaces are; Encapsulation ARPA, ARP type ARPA

GIGAswitch/FDDI : SCP 2.20 DL 1.00 BB 2.00, all FGL-2 is 2.20

Now I am suspecting the FDDI frame relation between DECnet FDDI frame format
coming out vax's fddi adaptor and cisco's fddi frame. But not still unclear.
How do I go further troubleshooting?

Thanks and regards.

Hello,

It has been raised IPMT to NPB High Performance Networks engineering.

Hello,

My problem was resolved by changing into 'no fddi encapsulate'
from 'fddi encapsulate' in the fddi interface sub-commands on Cisco.

Thanks and regards.
