Customer has three Proteon fddi cards on one machine, same
    type/rev. DW300. Microcode CAF Silicon Rev 2.0.. Rev 2.23

Tra0: Ring status: transmitted report error Mac frame.

Same error from Tra1 and Tra2. All go off to seperate rings.

Customer states that last week along with these error messages, his
system would hang. His field service replaced the backplane and the IO
module and the system no longer hangs. He is still getting a very high
rate of these error messages on all three controllers and wants to know
    the cause.

The Network admin and troubleshooting guide, appendix B does not detail
    ring status messages.

Customer and his FE do not feel that it is likely that they have a
cabling issue or any source of bad packets on all three rings........

    thanks.
    Cat

    Isn't the DW300 a Proteon buy-out *Token-Ring* EISA adapter? If so,
    Token-Ring != FDDI.

Found this response in the token_ring conference once I found my way
over there. Thanks again for the pointer.

Note 814.1 Proteon MAC frame error? 1 of 1

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a "normal" occurrence on a token ring. When a station's
error counters reach a certain threshold, they fire off a report
error MAC frame to the Ring Error Monitor (whether there's one present
or not). The errors are typically due to station insertion/de-insertion
so unless your rings are really suffering, there's nothing to worry
about.
