I'm trying to find out if de DECconcentrator 900MX will work with a
CATALYST 1200 CISCO switch.
Our customer has CISCO switches and we are now selling some FDDI
Servers. Originally we proposed the Concentrators 900MX as well as the
switches (DECswitch 900EF), but as you might guess, customer would
like to use what they have.
I would appreciate your help. I have spent one whole week, asking every
where (until I found the conference) and nobody has been able to give
me a straight answer: yes or no.

Simply YES. If there is a error when you connect, I would suspect the
cisco before us. FDDI is FDDI.
Is someone saying it won't work? Just make sure they are running the
latest version of the firmware.

Our networks guys could not guarantee that it would work. Their answer
in their own words was:
"It should work, but if not, add a note explaining they might have to
buy some DECswitches"
I could imagine the customer answering "I could buy from you, but if
not you might have to sell to someone else"

Well, that's an interesting comment. I don't think that they should say
they have to "buy" DECswitches, but a DECswitch would be an excellent
debugging tool. The problem is convincing the customer that the
Catalyst is the problem (if a problem occurs) and simply saying to put
a Digital product in is not a convincing argument that the Catalyst is
broken. The real test is to plug our DECswitch and the Catalyst into
another vendor's concetrator to show the customer that our's works and
their's doesn't. This isn't always practical or possible. If is doesn't
work, you would need engineering help to determine what the actual
problem is so you can give the reason to the customer. You might be
able to replace it with a DECswitch and then send the Catalyst to the
NPB Technical Support Center so they can identify the cisco FDDI
implementation problem. So, you could position with the customer that
if it's our problem, no charge. But if it's the cisco, the charge is
$X. I'm confident we'll collect the money.

I just installed a network that had a cisci Catalyst 1200 in every
closet (about 40 of them) talking back to some DECconcentrator 500s.
Everything works just fine.
