1860.0. "DEFPA, Alpha and Multiprocessors question" by ANOHAC::COMFORT (The river keeps a talkin') Tue Nov 07 1995 13:25

    Hi,

I'm not sure what conference is best to start this topic, or if I will
    get anywhere with it...so

Alpha 2100 running OVMS 6.1 w/ the DEFPA drivers and manual connection
procedure in place. When the Alpha systems are configured for a single
CPU, the performance of the DEFPA-AA is fine. Can soak right up to
wire speed (or in this case, glass speed), around 11-12 MB/sec. When we
put a second cpu in the mix, the receive performance on the DEFPA drops
to about 300 KBytes/sec, though the transmit performance remains
consistent. Additionally, the performance problem internittently
disappears on a given transfer. The overall pattern seems to be 3-4
poor receive performance trials followed by one or two at the
appropriate throughput, then back to low performance.

Anyone seen this or have a new driver, etc.

    Thanks,

    Dave Comfort

    Dave,

I assume you've opened call with Colorado about this?

What do you mean by manual connection procedure?

    Thanks,
    Ted

    Ted -

The manual connection procedure is to provide a io connection for the
device driver via sysman. OVMS 6.1 does not have integrated support
for the DEFPA, but a driver and installation procedure kit is
    available.

| | There's no known problem with the driver in this regard. I'd look at
system tuning, amount of non-paged pool, and what the test program and
look at counters to see whats going on.

Does this system have the Performance Solution product running on it?

This might help you to answer some of Dick's (.3) questions...
