Am I in the correct place for asking about the following on a DEC 7000 with DEFPA controller? The problem manifests itself as very slow nfs communications across the fddi. We also see in the kernel log file: fta0: Ring initialized (repeated for pages and pages) fta0: MAC CRC Error (repeated several times) fta0: Duplicate token found Counters show 9586 seconds since last zeroed 144336112 ANSI MAC frame count 0 ANSI MAC frame error count 610 ANSI MAC frames lost count 4142934134 bytes received 4199673108 bytes sent 65601467 data blocks received 76165805 data blocks sent 8283703 multicast bytes received 108962 multicast blocks received 1295770 multicast bytes sent 9377 multicast blocks sent 0 transmit underrun errors 0 send failures 11244 FCS check failures 0 frame status errors 0 frame alignment errors 0 frame length errors 0 unrecognized frames 0 unrecognized multicast frames 0 receive data overruns 0 system buffers unavailable 0 user buffers unavailable 17778 ring reinitialization received 0 ring reinitialization initiated 0 ring beacon process initiated 0 ring beacon process received 2 duplicate tokens detected 0 duplicate address test failures 0 ring purger errors 0 bridge strip errors 0 traces initiated 0 traces received 0 LEM reject count 0 LEM events count 0 LCT reject count 0 TNE expired reject count 1 Completed Connection count 0 Elasticity Buffer Errors From uerf: DEC OSF/1 V3.2B (Rev. 214.61) fta0: DEC DEFPA (PDQ) FDDI Interface fta0: Firmware rev: 2.46 The customer says there are no nodes being added/removed from the ring. Do I ask here correctly? Any assistance would be appreciated. Nancy Flavell [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

FCS failure and Reinitialization received (ring init by this link) suggest that you have a hardware fialure, probably cabling or Concentrator if present.Or the controller itself. Naeem. | |||||

Thank you for your analysis. I will have the hardware checked at that site. Nancy [Posted by WWW Notes gateway] |
