1739.0. "Boot VAX 66xx/7xxx as satellite into HS1xx" by SUOBOS::BAYER () Thu Jul 06 1995 11:12
One of our customer plan to migrate from his CI-Storage
Controlers HSC50/70 to the new FDDI-Storage-Cont. HS1xx.
The cluster consists of 1 VAX 6640,2 VAX 7620 and 1 VAX 7710.
All VAX-Processors has connection to the FDDI via DEMFA.
The question of the customer is:
>>> Is it possible to boot VAX 66xx
VAX 76xx
VAX 77xx
as satellite over the FDDI into a MSCP-served System-Disk
offered by the HS1xx controller ?
>>> What console and firmware rev. is needed when FDDI boot
is possible ?
To this questions I found in the OpenVMS Cluster SPD the following lines,
which told me, that FDDI boot is not possible:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Table 1:
CPU CI DSSI SCSI[8] FDDI Ethernet
VAX 6000, Yes Yes - Yes Yes
7000, 10000
[1]Each "Yes" means that this CPU is supported on this interconect-
but cannot be booted as a satellite over this interconnect
[2]Each "Yes+Sat" means that this CPU is supported on this inter-
connect and can be booted as a satellite node over this interconnect
Note: Note that levels of interconnect support and LAN booting capa-
bilities are continuously being increased. In many cases these addi-
tional capabilities result from hardware option and system console
microcode enhancements, and are not dependent on OpenVMS software.
Refer to the appropriate hardware option and system documentation for
the most up-to-date information.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
>>> My final question is, are there any plans to implement FDDI-boot on
this type of VAX-processors ?
Kind regards
Dieter
