    Hello,
    
     I have a customer with DEFPA-UA ( FDDI over UTP) port in Sable connected to
     a Gigaswitch. This is S-S connection and the Green led on Gigaswitch
     indicates the link is stable and physical level connectivity is oK.
     This system is running VMS 6.1 and DEFPA has been manually configured.
    
     This system has two controllers ( onboard Ethernet and DEFPA )
     
     netconfig came up with following commands:
    
    
        DEFINE LINE    EWA-0 STATE ON
        DEFINE CIRCUIT EWA-0 STATE ON COST 4
        DEFINE LINE    EWA-1 STATE ON
        DEFINE CIRCUIT EWA-1 STATE ON COST 4
        DEFINE LINE    FWA-0 STATE ON
        DEFINE CIRCUIT FWA-0 STATE ON COST 4
    
     
     Next customer turned the circuit and line state off for EWA0
     and we received following messages:

    Circuit FWA-0, Line synchronization lost
    
     We cannot get the DECNET  to run on the DEFPA.
     
     Any comments on the above is appreciated

Has the DEFPA been successfully configured?  You can tell by ANA/SYS and
SHOW LAN/ERROR/DEV=FWA to see if there are any errors,
SHOW LAN/COUNT/DEV=FWA to see if there have been any successful xmt/rcv,
SHOW LAN/FDDI to see if the 'ring available' status is indicated.

If the driver isn't getting interrupts, you will see timeout errors.

If the DEFPA isn't on the ring you will not see 'ring available' status.

    Have you got a full function DECnet license loaded, things get horribly
    confused if you only have end-node installed, from one who knows...
