If a VAXcluster system has both a FDDI controller and Ethernet
controller... DECNET Phase IV requires that both controllers to
have the same address... If a Router is introduced into the equation
in the following way can the controllers have different addresses
under DECNET Phase IV or does a Phase V need to be run to accomodat
this...

You need Phase V to be able have multiple circuits if the DEC 7000. | |||||

Assuming the two DEC 7000 systems in .0 are VAX 7000 systems running DECnet Phase IV,, the configuration is quite legal as long as the router is a pure router and not a brouter. A brouter bridges and routes. So with the bridge function, the bridge will see the same AA-00-04-00-xx-yy address on both sides - the FDDI side and Ethernet side and really get confused when it sees the same MAC layer address on both sides. Once you go to phase V, then the router can be a bridge or a brouter and that is legal. ALphonse | |||||
