Hi, We have a customer with a Decstation 5200 Ultrix 4.2 and DEFZA-CA (STP). Can we connect the DEFZA-CA with STP cross cable to IBM RS6000 A or B port ? The IBM has cddi DAS controller. When we use the above configuration we get an error - the LED is blinking green (No cable attached). The customer have two IBM RS6000 that working fine with the same cross cable we used. The cable is according to scheme - Transmit is on pin 5&9, Receive is on 1&6. Does connecting a DEFZA-CA without a concentrator is a valid configuration ? Thanks for any help. Erez

The short answer is no, this will not work.

Before there was a twisted pair FDDI standard, there were two
different STP FDDI implementations. The first was done by DEC
and a few other companies, and was called the "Green Book"
version of FDDI over STP. IBM later came along and did a different
version that they called SDDI. Finally, ANSI standardized the
version known as TP-PMD, which is sometimes called CDDI.

The STP adapter that we built does not talk to either of the other two.
