    Just a simple query, should a DEFEA-DA (DAS) module work OK without the
    daughter card attached, in other words using it as a SAS module.

    Just a simple answer: YES.
    
    Without the daughter card attached, the "parent card" of the DEFEA-DA
    will function as a single-attachment station 'S' port.
