The config we have at customer site is FDDI dual ring with the DECbridge 900MX DAS port, Pentium Server with DEFEA-DA (DAS) port on the dual ring. Novell ver 4.01 has been installed. However access from a client (PC) connected to DECrepeater 900TM is unable to connect to the Pentium Novell Server on FDDI, although it can access another Novell Pentium Server connected to a ethernet port of the DECbridge 900MX thru Novell. We need the following now to proceed further : Whether we need to do anything special with DEFEA-DA on Novell? Whether Novell Ver 4.01 is sure to work with DEFEA-DA (FDDI)? Or we need higher versions of Novell (4.02 is available and I understand Ver 4.2 is announced)! We may perhaps test out Server to Server communication on FDDI keeping two Novell Pentium servers on the dual ring. (for this we need the shortshipped DEFEA-DA urgently) Any other suggestions? Thanx & regds. araman

| Hi,

    	Refer to following note from NETWARE notes.
    	Notes conferences are not the right place for asking
    	shortshipments.

    There are no unusual configuration requirements for FDDI, but you do
    have to be sensitive to frame types and packet sizes. If you're
    running IPX, the packet size negotiation will occur, so feel free to
    set the MAXIMUM PHYSICAL RECEIVE PACKET SIZE on the FDDI server to 4500
    bytes or larger. This will help your FDDI-to-FDDI performance.

    On the issue of frame types, it's fairly straightforward going from
    Ethernet to/from FDDI.

    	ETHERNET_II 	<==>  FDDI_SNAP
    	ETHERNET_802.2  <==>  FDDI_802.2

    Don't bridge ETHERNET_802.3 traffic onto the FDDI ring without enabling
    the optional switch on the DECbridge 900MX which translates the bogus
    Ethernet frames into valid FDDI frames. ETHERNET_SNAP bridges over OK,
    so long as you use it for Appletalk. Don't use it for IPX traffic for
    reasons I won't go into here.

    Do you know whose FDDI cards you're using on the server? Are they
    Digital's? If not, make sure that you use the most current drivers and
    be sure to read all of the documentation to be sure that there are no
    special configuration options for the driver. As an FYI, we've been
    successfully running an FDDI NetWare server in our bridged environment
    for many years now.

|     Dear Araman,

    It seems you have got the same problem like me or it is the same
    problem . I ve allready posted it in "netware" note 1596. Keep an
    eye on it and do the needful.

    I'm just getting back from holiday. Where are we on this (or is it these?)
    problem? Has the frame type issue been verified?
