Digital in its infinite wisdom changed the type of ST-II connector that
we use on our Fiber patch cables. The new ST-II is not metal but some
plastic composit and it is physically larger than the metal type.
This new ST-II cannot be used on the DEFZA option as it does not allow
the cable to be inserted far enough to engage the 1/4 turn twist lock.
I have heard that it also does not work on the DEFTA either, but cannot
confirm that.
The cables in question are the BN24D and BN24E types.
The customer just spend a few hundred dollars for cables that don't
work and he is ripped. Is there a actual part number to specify the
metal ends or some kind of short patch cable that uses the metal style
ends instead ????

This is a known problem. The specification for the cable permits
either connector type, the older metal type and the newer plastic type.
So the problem is with the bezel on the DEFZA and possibly some DEFTAs,
where alignment is a problem.
The solution is for the field to replace the bezels on the DEFZA with
new ones that have larger holes. These bezels are being ordered by
engineering and initially will be distributed as needed.
Where there is a problem with the DEFTA-FA, a module swap will be
necessary because the bezel is riveted to the module.
Enter an IPMT case for this customer using the product name DEFZA or
DEFQA, in order for us to track the problem through to resolution.
Specify the quantity of modules that are affected.
