Hi,
My customer has some solaris servers that are sending out packets with
the IP Frag bit set NOT to fragment. These packets hit the DECbridge
620 and the DECbridge drops the packet (as it should) because it needs
to fragment the packet in order to put it out on the Enet. My question
is about what happens next. I believe the 620 should drop the packet and
send back a message to the solaris server that it dropped the packet
and increment the ICMP destination unreachable counter. The message back
to he solaris server should be (ICMP type 3 code 4 set ) This message
should tell the server to change it's IP Frag bit.
We are not seeing any of the latter, no change in ICMP counters at all
and no message back to the server. Is this a problem or am I completely
wrong about what is suppose to happen in this situation.
Thanks, Mike Beaulieu

Mike,
have a look at note 1171 (which you posted!) -
the Decbridge 620 doesn't send back ICMPs since it isn't a full
gateway implementation (although it would be nice)
John.

Note that the new DECbridge 900 DOES send back the ICMP message, and in fact includes the additional data specified in RFC 1191. paul | |||||
