    Hi All,
    
    Anybody having a Network General Sniffer connected as SAS or DAS
    to an FDDI ring somewhere working nicely ?
    
    I am trying to do a ring with 	a DECNIS V2.2 (SMT6.2)
    					a DEFCN  V3.3.1 (SMT 7.2)
    					a DEFCN  V3.0 B (SMT 6.2)
    and NG Sniffer SAS on one of the DEFCN.
    
    The NG Sniffer is hung when it tries to enter the ring.
    If I downgrade the 1st DEFCN to 3.0B it doesn't hang but updates
    the screen every ~2 min instead of every second. The NG Sniffer
    should detect automatically if SMT is at 6.2 or 7.2.
    The Sniffer is working correctly if I do my ring with only the
    DECNIS and the Sniffer as a DAS.

	Can you configure the Sniffer as a DAS repeater i.e. SMT disabled? The HP Advisor I used could be a DAS, Dual Attached Repeater, or Dual Attached Monitor, FWIW. Phil

	Hi, the problem could be that your ring has a very low load. When this happen there is basicly only VOID frames on the ring at a rate around 50k/s. This is then to much for the 486 CPU in the pc. But if you have a load of >1% of "real" traffic then you should get a more accepteble performance from the sniffer. You could get around the problem by removing VOID frames in the capture filter setup. /Stefan

	Thanks to all, .2 was the answer. It looks like the Sniffer can handle only 45-50k frames/sec (from Network General at Menlo Park). The analyzer should be capable of handling SMT 6.2 & 7.2 nodes. NG said they are ANTC compliant.
