I don't see the connection? I downline load from an FDDI controller on
my VAX all the time. No problem.

In the configuration in .0, you might have a problem if the DECNIS were
not set up for bridging. If it is only routing, then you would need to
set it up as a proxy load host for the X25router. This is probably
possible, I've done it with other DECNIS but not an X25router. You
should probably check in the NOTED::DECNIS conference.

But, why not just set the DECNIS up for bridging? Then the MOP
requests are bridged from the Ethernet onto the FDDI and then the VAX
    can service them. No problem.

The customer don't have any problems with the downline loading his
cluster satellites too (also the SNA Gatway works fine).

The only problem occurs with the X25router. So it seems that the
problem depends on the X25router software.

The X25router just uses MOP to get loaded. There must be something
wrong in the NCP definition of the X25router that is preventing it from
getting loaded. Do they get the load requests at all? Or do they
    start and then fail? Or..???

| | Hi Kelly,

the customer did a little bit more of testing with his X25router. He
used a LAN analyzer and saw the following behaviour.

The X25router sent a MOP Multicast Request to VAX and the VAX answers with
a MOP message but instead of using the physical address (AA-00-04...)
for the ethernet source address the VAX put his hardware address
    (08-00-2B...) in the ethernet frame.

Maybe this is the cause of the problem ?

    	Best regards

That's not too suprising. The FDDI adapter can send from either
address. It's up to the higher lay to specify.

Is the VAX running pure Phase IV or DECnet/OSI? If it were Phase IV, I
would expect it to have used the DECnet modified address, but (pure
speculation here), there could always be a bug in MOP which does this
    over FDDI.

In any case, if other things can get loaded via this VAX's FDDI
adapter, then the X25router 2000 should be able to too.

Watching the analyzer, do you see the X25router responding to this
    response from the VAX?

Do you get any events on the VAX?

| | The MOP spec calls for using the hardware address. Then again, it doesn't
actually matter so long as things are done consistently. So I'd expect the
problem to be somewhere else...

It will not work and is not supported. None of the Phase IV DEMSA
    products will load over FDDI.

| | Well, I guess I shouldn't argue with an expert, but I would like to
know why? I mean, it's just MOP. Why can't it work?

Also, the SNA gateway you said is getting loaded fine, is it a DEMSA or
    a CT?
