934.0. "Device buffer size/LRP size?" by ABACUS::BUKOWSKI () Fri Apr 16 1993 13:07
Could somebody answer a few question for me? We have several VAX
6xxx's running VMS 5.5-1. All of them are using a DEMFA (FDDI
contoller) for their network interconnect. Because of the version
of VMS, NCP does not recognize a line protocol type of FDDI, so we
have to run our DEMFA's with a line protocol type of ETHERNET.
1- What problem can this cuase?
2- Since we are not able to set a NCP line type of FDDI, we can not
take full advantage of the large FDDI packet size, but will
increasing our LRP size benifit us at all?
3- I assume that once we do upgrade to 5.5-2 our 6.0 that we should:
.change ncp line protocol to FDDI
.change device buffer size to 45??
.change the LRP size to 4571?
4- Should we be setting our LRP size equal to or a bit larger than the
ncp line device buffer size?
Thanks,
Mike
