880.0. "Needs looking into." by PEACHS::SCHULTZ (Blessed are the Cheesemakers !!!) Mon Mar 01 1993 13:30

I have a problems that I thought I'd bring here. I have a customer that
has some Decstation 5000 systems with DEFZA controllers installed. He
ordered some BN24E-XX patch cables from DEC. These cables came in with
a Ceramic connector in place of the standard metal connector. Problem
is that Ceramic/Phenolic connector is larger in outside diameter than
the metal ones, and they do not fit properly on the 2.5mm bayonet
connectors (STII). This is not a connection mating problem, but an
external clearance problem on the 5000 systems.

Did anyone in purchasing check on this before going to a non-metal
    connector ???

I have not seen them myself, as all of my patch cables are using the
metal ends. The customer has so far broken 2 of the connectors trying
to get them attached. He called looking for a manufacturer of the metal
connectors so that he can repair these cables. The only vendor I could
give him was Anixter, as they carry the AT&T and Siecor connectors.
