    I assume the boards in the DECconcentrator and the DB500/600 have some
    sort of engine or processor to run things.  Are these a dedicated
    engine (something like a ASIC) or are they based on a specific
    processor?
    
    Responding to an RFP and there is some interest as to how the insides

| Give them a copy of the Digital Technical Journal issue on FDDI; that gives a good overview of some of these. The concentrator is pretty simple; most of the work is in the FDDI chipset. The control is provided by a simple 68000 (the slowest version available! that was all we needed...) The bridge has several processors, including a bitslice machine to do the initial sorting of incoming FDDI frames. paul | |||||
