Are there any Digital plans to develop FDDI controllers (DAS or SAS) for
third party systems?
Several customers are requesting either SCSI based or VME-bus based
FDDI controllers. One customer in particular is looking for FDDI
support on Silicon Graphics (SGI) - workstations.
If there are no plans for Digital conntrollers, pointers to third party
offerings welcomed.
Thanks,
Jim Eastman

I'm not aware of any for those specific cases. You might want to discuss this with product management, though. As for SCSI, that's not a particularly good interconnect for network adapters -- it's really designed for the sort of interactions you have with storage devices (disks, tapes). paul

I think that Digital will not be doing a VME (or SCSI) board. At least not in the short term. I would call Motorola and ask if they have, or know of, a VME implementation of their FDDI chipset (wich is based on ours). Or better still - replace your customers SGI workstations with new DECstations with FDDI :-) Torbjorn

i got the impression from the last netu that the lenac people were
looking at some kind of an outboard scsi adapter. you might try talking
to someone in lenac like bill ENGINE::MELLO

I think I'll resurrect this topic, rather than start a redundant one...
I have been looking for VME/FDDI adapters, and have located two
One by Formation, and another by Interphase. Neither of these products
seem to be based on our Chipset design, and before I sell them to our customer,
I would like to find out if anyone knows of a third party board that DOES use
our chipset design. This is a very specialized application of FDDI technology,
and will not allow for any variance from the specified VME/FDDI requirement.
The opportunity is for 120 units.
Anyone have a favorite vendor, preferably using our chipset, or
minimally, one we have done business with before?
Anyone ever used either of the two companies mentioned above?
Thanks...
Bob
