Hello,
I've submitted note 298 on CDDI (FDDI on Copper) and do not have
any comments or suggestions as yet. I'll try refrasing the question
somewhat.
If we were to sell the new DEC products (DECconcentrator 500 DEFCN-S)
running FDDI over STP and the product once installed on the customer
site didn't work properly with a possible problem being the cable plant.
How would we test the cable plant and against what specification would
we compare our results.
I would suggest that some specifications/testing methods must be in
place to cover this possibility. If we can't put the information here
where can I find it or who do I talk to.
Somewhat frustrated... Jim Durnin NIS

have you looked in the DECconnect documentation. I believe that the
shielded twisted pair cable supported is documented in quite fully
as LEVEL 5 Data grade media. the document give characteristic as
DC Resistance - Max Ohms/1000ft 17.4
DC Resistance - Max unbalanced 4%
mutual Capacitance -numinal pf/ft 9
Capacitance unbalanced pair to ground
Max pf/1000 ft 247
then a bunch of Impedance Zo, Attenuation, and Next at various Mhz

Thanks for the info. Can you specify what DECconnect documentation
you are referring to.
Also what tests do you run, on what type of tester to obtain results
against spec.. I realize some of these specs. can be obtained from the
cable manufacturer but what about once the cable is installed. What
type of tester and what tests do you run.
Thanks.
