I heard some "rumor" saying that our FDDI products will support single
mode fiber in a short time (end of 1990) thus increasing the distance
between two stations.
Is this right or it's just uncontrolled rumor?
The reason I'm asking this question is because we have a customer who
is interested on buying FDDI from us but he needs to go far beyond the
2 kilometers supported by the multimode fiber.
Can I tell him to wait for few month or should I tell him to buy
FIBRONICS?
Thanks in advance

Yes we will have FDDI products that will support SMC ( single mode
connection) about Jan 91. The max distance betwen stations will be
around 37Km I believe. Instead or LEDs in the optics we will be using
Lazers.
