| 267.1 | I would have gone, if it was closer and at a better time | JAC::COFFLER | Cancer cures Smoking ... | Wed Aug 21 1991 12:45 | 14 |
| | I would have liked to go, but can't due to prior commitments.

    Also, PKO is quite a drive for me. DVN would have been very nice, and
    I would most definitely participate in that for the next meeting.

    I'm not sure I'll ever drive to PKO, though. That this point, I have
    an attitude of "what for?"; Given the DCU, it's lousy interest rates,
    it's lousy convienence, and it's high fees, I've already decided to go
    to a bank with decent interest rates (at least competitive), much more
    convienence, and no fees given a low minimum.

    Also, I strongly believe that the DCU is not in sound financial shape;
    I'd rather keep my money where I feel it's safe. Why spend my time and
    trouble dealing with the DCU when I can get MUCH better for less?

| 267.3 | Count me in as another, in spirit, attendee... | BTOVT::EDSON_D |  | Wed Aug 21 1991 12:48 | 13 |
| | I'm sure it wouldn't make sense since there are so many places to go,
    but I'd love to see the DCU board visit some of the DEC plants for
    these fireside chats.

    It's a joke when they think that a cafe that holds 60 people is
    sufficient! Either they're drastically underestimating the
    dissatisfaction, or they know the impact and want to limit the lynch
    squad.

    I've asked, in the meeting note, for a proxy questioner. I cannot
    attend this meeting due to distance and timing.

| | Alas, I cannot attend on such short notice. My question for the BoD is
    what happens if they don't jack up the fees for the accounts? Do we
    lose money and carry inactive accounts, or do increases have to happen
    someplace else?

    For example, I remember when we used to get interest bonuses on our
    balances. I always thought that this was possible because we went
    without some conveniences, such as getting our checks back. At the
    time, all the rates were better than what you could get at a bank.
    So if the DCU is saving money by not giving us checks back, AND is
    getting more money from charging higher interest rates, AND is getting
    more money by paying lower interest rates on deposits (4.45% on
    savings), why do they need MORE money by effectively making our
    interest rate negative on checking accounts?

    Secondly, I'd like to know what their plan is to get back to the old
    credit union, with simpler offerings and better rates of interest.

Subj:	R U going to DCU meeting?? I have a question I'd like asked.
	Hi Len,
	Glad to get your note today about the DCU informal meeting.
	This looks like a ALL-IN-1 node to send your questions to.
	I'm not sure now to address VaxMail to an all in one account,
	so if your going or know of someone that is.... I'd like to
	ask this question from Colorado Springs.
	Q: I asked the local Colorado Springs DCU personal if my IRA
	   account (which is over $3,000) would qualify for the $2,500
	   min required for free checking. The DCU person took down my
	   phone number and said they would get back to me (I have voice
	   mail on my phone here in Colorado, so they didn't miss me).
	   After three days of no response I called Mary Maden's ext
	   (207) in Maynard. She was in a meeting and Patricia D'Addieco
	   was on the phone. The person there took a message and said
	   THEY would get back to me with an answer to the question.
	  I'm no longer interested in the IRA account, I want to know why
	  no one will answer my question. What ever happened to answering
	  questions, returing phone calls and the credit union Helping
	  people.
P.S. If your not going, could take the time to forward my mail. Thanks
	Keep up the good work.

| 267.8 | I'd like to go but ... | STAR::PARKE | I'm a surgeon, NOT Jack the Ripper | Wed Aug 21 1991 14:10 | 15 |
| | Its a long way for me on such short notice, and a 60 body room does not
sound like a 7:pm arrival would get in.
Also, I'd like to see a road show by these folks, say at least in New England.
I'm sure we could get Babbage or Cauchy in ZK and something big in MKO. They also
ought to do the amphitheater in MRO.
Why are they in a hurry ? Are they worried that they will have to pay a lot of
interest in October }8-)}

| 267.9 | I don't even have a branch, why should they giver me a meeting? | POBOX::KAPLOW | Set the WAYBACK machine for 1982 | Wed Aug 21 1991 14:47 | 25 |
|  |         Chicago is a bit far from PK03. I can't make the 1000 mile drive
        this afternoon. Please voice my concerns.

        My primary interest at this point is if DCU will survive this
        crisis.

        Beyond that, I'd rather see a no frills DCU that doesn't cost
        service fees, and doesn't pad the expenses with friviolus
        expenses. Things like buyer protection, and the like. Eliminate
        RSVP, Christmas, etc. and have members put all their money in one
        account, to save costs (except IRAs as required by law). Stop al
        the cute marketing propiganda in my monthly statement; most of it
        insults my intelligence anyway.

        After waiting for 5-6 years for a local branch I've given up. DCU
        might as well get rid of ALL of their branches and ATMs, pocket
        the savings, and in return absorb the $1.00 network cost. Get lean
        and mean. Currently DCU has one employee for every 600 members.
        That means every member (my wife and I are two) pays about $50
        just in staff salaries. Just by coincidence, $4.00 per month comes
        to $48 per year; your share of DCU salaries.

        Bottom line: return DCU to what it was supposed to be, a member
        service with competitive rates, responsive to our needs, rather
        than driven to its own purposes.

| | As much as my personal financial state is of concern to me, THe fact
    that were are trying to get a new Version f VMS out by this weekend,
    and I have a part to play in that, prevents me from attending.

    I am absolutely astounded that an organization that has the ability to
    utilize an electronic medium such as this, to establish closer links
    with it's somewhat captive customer base, didn't at least test the
    water. And what of those features that people have asked for as opposed
    to those that they decree we want...
