I noticed this a lot during the Christmas/New Years Holiday's also, with
Baybanks and Shawmut. It seems like the Dcu vax is crashing a lot...
I had to wait about 15 minutes before being able to get money.

| 230.2 | Same story...different machines | DECSIM::GILLETT | And you may ask yourself, 'How do I work this?' | Tue Jan 08 1991 08:52 | 13 |
| | I had this experience during November, but not with BayBanks ATM
	machines. I had car trouble on the NY Thruway near Buffalo and
	had to get additional cash to finish the drive. I stopped at 24
	(count 'em...24) different Cirrus machines before I located one
	that could make the network connection and give me cash. My idea
	of fun is *not* driving along NY Route 20 with no cash and a car
	on "empty" with no way to get cash :-(.
	Moral of the Story: ATM banking is a neat idea, but don't ever
	count on it being available when you need it.
	/Chris

| | The key word is "network connection". The host bank's computer must be upm
the remote bank's computer must be up, AND the network link must be up. It
is technologically feasible to make the link 99% reliable, but it appears the
banks are not willing to spend the money for this level of reliability.
  Thanks for posting this.
