As some of you know DCU now offers VISA. Being a happy customer
I requested one and got one. I was very happy as the rate was good
and there was no annual fee. The first 2 months I got the bill
on a relatively regular basis (For the past 6 years that I have
dealt with DCU, they are normally late in account statement).

For the month of July, I did not get any statement, but then in
August, I got my statement with some finance charges for the bill
that I have not paid (read have not received!!). I live in So.
California, got up early one morning and call DCU (before they go
to lunch) and explained the situation to a customer rep. She said
"it was probably lost in the mail, but you still have to pay the
finance charges". Well my question is, knowing that I am responsible
for paying my bills, should I know how much my bill is before I
pay it? It's not like your mortgage that is fixed monthly whether
you get the bill or not?

Does any one have any suggestion. Should I pay the finance cahrges
and forget it? Should I fight back? By the way I always pay
the entire VISA bills as I hate paying interest.

    Thanks

| Well, I have two thoughts... The first is that I keep track of all my bills and know their due dates. I also know my due date(s) and minimum payment(s) for DCU accounts through the phone-touch system. So when a bill is more than 10 days late getting to me, I call and ask where my bill is. The answer is usually "We'll send you a new one, your payment is (xxx) and you'll have a grace period to make the payment". That ensures I'm not in this situation. FWIW, it seems DCU Visa card payments are due on the 5th of the month. The second thought I have is to fight it. Read the fair credit disclosure you got with your card regarding challenges to charges. That'll give you a starting point. Call Mary Madden (or equivalent) and *write* stating your issue with your bill. Usually if you are hard-nosed enough you win. Beware that something like this may show up on your credit report if you don't take immediate action and follow the rules... Best of luck... BobW | |||||

I received my Visa statement this month and was rather
shocked. The balance, minimum payment, account number and
account max were visable throught the envelope window. I
called the DCU and they said they were aware of the problem
and that it would not happen again.

Since they were aware of this problem I guess mine was not
the only one. I sure hope they get this fixed quickly.

      Ken
