I agree with Arnie. I live in a town that does not have touch tone
phone service, but I do have a terminal and modem at home. With
DCU access via the Net, I could do transactions at home rather than
having to find a touch tone phone or an ATM.

I would suggest that this method be capable of accepting multiple
commands. The menus are fine the first or second time but the
1000th??? Also will save time if response is slow.

| This is a good idea but it would create a security nightmare. Also
it would be another "service" that would cost money to implement
(there is another note in this conference about $$ vs. services and
most people seemed to want more $$ than more services from DCU).

I think the real problem with this idea is not so much the cost
to implement it, but the rediculously fine line separating Digital
from DCU. I find it quite interesting how DCU can use Digital's
office space, advertising (did you know that DCU is listed in the
Digital employee's benefits book?), mailstop system, DTNs, parking
spaces, etc., but when you ask for them to use Digital's network for
any function -- like I asked a few weeks back for statement
distribution -- the answer is an immediate "Oh, but they aren't Digital!".

I didn't see anything in .0 that suggested that we use
the Digital Network to access this service. (It is an obvious
possibility though.) Rather I got the impression that the writer
intended that it be accessed via an 800 number just like any
other "bulletin board". This would eliminate the security aspect
as far as Digital was concerned. It does raise the question of
how many people are equipped to access it from home or via a
modem from work.

I am not a representative of the DCU nor a courier for them. The
entry in this conference should be addressed to the conference
membership, in general, or to the DCU as an organization.
RE:. 1,2,3,4.
I'll add my vote for terminal access via "800" number class dial
ups. It would be nice if some LEGAL means were found to do this
via the network as a benifit to those DCU members who are also DEC
employees.

| Many of our systems offer outgoing access to TSN (e.g., through
a LAT service). Likewise, some systems have PSI gateways.
If the DCU chose to implement such a service, it MIGHT make
sense to have it accessible via TSN and other "public" networks
(although there is a COST associated with this, and there is
always the question of who should pay it, all the DCU members
or just those who use the service).

Just because you don't have touch tone service in your town
doesn't mean you can't access DCU to perform transactions. Get a
switchable phone, dial using pulse, then switch to DTMF (touch
tone) to "talk" to DCU. There are many phones on the market now
that allow this - and the good ones aren't all that expensive.
