| | I can answer 1 and give a bit of insight into 2. Yes, DCU has at
least 2 ATM machines in Nashua. There is one at Spit Brook road
between ZK1 and ZK2. This is inside and would require and escort
for a non-employee (although DCU is supposed to do this during banking
hours). The other one I know about it on Amherst Street in the
DECdirect building. (It is right near Steve's Ice Cream/D'Angelos
and Indian Head Bank). This one is accessible without escort or
    badge.

Re 2: DCU is considered a MA bank. I work and live in NH, and
as I recall, NH managed to stick me for taxes on out-of-state income.
(And you thought NH was tax-free!) I don't know how all this affects
your case, although I would note that you will have to pay MA income
tax on income earned in MA even though you live in NH. You might
be better off if you may your DCU tax to MA, since MA treats DCU
income favorably as an in-state bank. (Standard disclaimer applies...
I am not an accountant; see your own; your milage may vary...)

Just how did NH tax you? I have been in the same situation for four
years and have never been taxed for earnings from the DCU.

There is also an ATM in Merrimack. This one is located inside the
doorway at MKO2 and does not require an escort.

With regard to splitting your paycheck between DCU and another bank.
Yes, this can be done as I do it right now. However, the set up
    procedure is a bit indirect.

The way this is accomplished is something like this. You can have
various amounts deducted from your paycheck into any number of accounts
at the DCU. You can also have your net pay deposited into any bank
or financial institution that accepts direct deposit but this deposit
MUST be to a checking account.

What you do is deduct fixed amounts to each DCU account, including
your checking account. Then set up the balance (your "net pay")
to go to your bank account.

Re .1 -- NH taxes you as an out of state account

I also lived in NH for two years, had no bank accounts except for
DCU and never paid any tax on the earnings. Are you saying that
I failed to declare this income to NH??

| 72.4 | Get tax advice from a tax lawyer or accountant | HAMSTR::BLINN | From the Granite State.. | Mon Nov 30 1987 16:09 | 21 |
| | I'm neither an accountant nor a tax lawyer, so don't take my word
for it, but it is my understanding that, since the DCU has
branches in NH as well as MA, that interest paid on DCU accounts
is treated as in-state interest income by BOTH of the two states.
Your accountant or tax lawyer may advise you differently.

The relevant point of this is that, while NH doesn't tax interest
income earned in a NH bank (but does tax income on out-of-state
deposits), MA taxes both in-state (5%, if I recall correctly) and
out-of-state (10%) interest income (at least, for MA residents,
which you will not be, according to what you said). I believe
that, as a NH resident, you don't have to pay tax on your DCU
income in NH (in-state bank) or in MA (not earned in MA, and you
        are not a resident).

It should go without saying that if you live in NH and work in MA,
you will have a more complex tax situation than if you lived and
worked in the same state. It might behoove you to consult someone
        trained in the "official" rules.

    Hi Ed,

I work in Acton (ACO) on Route 2. ATM access here is no
problem because BayBanks (one of the largest banks in MA)
is in the CIRRUS system. I know of at least 2 BayBanks
close to my site (easy to run out at lunch time if necessary)
as well as many from here to the NH border. Feel free to
send me mail if you have other questions.

Will you be at ACO or AKO? For what it's worth, there is no
Easycash ATM at AKO, but there is a DCU branch in AKO1.

| 72.7 | Yes, there is Income Tax in NH | DECWET::DUNLAP | Kevin Dunlap | Wed Dec 02 1987 22:21 | 10 |
| | I had an accountant do my taxes the last few years that I lived
in NH (1985 & 86). The interest from DCU was counted as in NH
because DCU had branches in NH.
I did have to pay income Tax in NH because I had over
a certain ($1000.00, I think) amount of interest income.
This interest income includes checking & stock dividends.

| | Well, I'm vindicated regarding the fact that NH does tax things.
However, I don't remember exactly what they taxed for me; I thought
it was DCU interest, but I am probably wrong. I'll try to take
    a look.

| 72.9 | N.H. *Special* Income Tax | DSSDEV::CARIGNAN | Marc A. Carignan, DDIF Viewers | Wed Dec 09 1987 08:22 | 5 |
| | N.H *does* levy taxes on moneys earned from stocks and bonds when
greater than a certain amount (probably greater than $500-800).
Perhaps this is the tax to which you are referring?
