| | I don't use the DCU ATM's very often, so I can't comment
on their reliability in either direction. However, I do use the
ATM's of another bank exstensively (at least once a week),
mainly on weekends and after normal banking hours. The
availability of these machines has been excellent with only a
very few times (less than 10 times in at least 5 years) that any
machine has given me a problem. I can only think of one time
when the system was down as opposed to an individual machine
        being down.

                /s/ Bob

From my experience in Colorado, the ATM is always down at the
most inconvenient times. They always do balancing at about 12 noon
each day so it cannot be used to get lunch money (probably to conform
to balancing back east time schedule) and in the evenings (probably
for the nightly account postings). Any time the comm lines are
down, it is unavailable but it would be nice to allow transactions
to take place off line and update after comm is reestablished.
I am sure that cash withdrawals from non DCU ATMS dont depend on
the availability of the DCU computer.

| 41.3 | Non-Digital ATMs Do Require DCU Computer | EXPLOR::SOJDA | Larry Sojda | Fri Sep 25 1987 15:24 | 10 |

My experience with non-Digital ATM's seems to indicate that they
DO depend on the availability of the DCU computer. There have been
several instances where I could not make withdrawals from my DCU
account because the ATM told me it could not communicate with my
bank's computer (that is the DCU's computer). Using the same ATM
I COULD make a withdrawal from my account at the host bank (Merchants
Bank in Vermont). This happens rather infrequently but it does
    happen.

| | Posting this note here has done some good. Something *has* changed, and
all I can say is thanks to whoever in DCU read and responded.
After I posted the original note, I started keeping a record, and here's
what I found:
                DATE TIME LOC DAY STATUS

                8/22 11:44 Mill Sat OPEN
                8/26 17:45 Mill Wed OPEN
                9/5 20:10 Mill Sat OPEN
                10/15 16:40 Mill Thurs OPEN
                10/26 19:50 Mill Mon OPEN

Congratulations DCU!

Here we are a 12:00 and DCU has the ATM down for "Balancing". Just what I'd
do to promote customer satisfaction...take the machine down during a peak
demand period...Where do these people get their customer skills? Will they
never learn?
