| | I know there is a place in Boothbay HArbor that rents daysailers,
by the day or half day, and as far as I can tell the only requirement
is sufficient cash, or good quality plastic card, to pay the fee.

| | re:.2 My Hunter 25.5 is chartered by Coastal Yacht Srevices in Boothbay
Harbor when I'm not using it which unfortunately is more often than
I would like. I don't think all charterers let you walk up, slap
down a credit card, and sail away. The agreement that I have with
my agent is that the person renting the boat be experienced or if
there is a question about experience the agent will take the person
out for a checkout sail. I'm a pilot and I can't rent an airplane
unless my log book is up to date and I'm current with the regs
otherwise the company renting the aircraft requires a check flight
before renting the plane to me. I think in the same manner for
my sailboat; I'd like to have it in good shape when I do get the
    opportunity to sail.
    agent is that

| | Thanx for the info. I decided that I definately will need to refresh
a bit. I'v joined Regatta Point sailing club here in Shrewsbury. I
went out last night with an instructer for a check out sail. She
said I did fine and allowed me to solo. I will be attending shore
school there next week. After that I will try to get as much time
out in the water as possible. Its only 10 min. away from here at
work (SHR). I figure that I can get at least 10-12 days out on the
water in an O'Day 18' daysailer. I should then be able to get my
helmsmans rating from them by then. The only other concern I will
have is handling the more open water of a bay instead of lake
Quinsigamond (sp?). Assuming this experience and cash :-) is
satisfactory to get me a boat, what should I watch out for in the
open water? Should I even attempt it with out an experienced
	skipper?
thanx for your help.
