| | According to Practical Sailor (again), VC17 works well on the Great
Lakes and other inland lakes. PS does not recommend its use in salt
water.

| 256.2 | my experience with VC17 | AKOV04::LYONS |  | Tue Apr 01 1986 19:55 | 16 |
| | I have used VC17 on a J-22 for the past two seasons. She is
    moored in Chatham's Stage Harbor. The first year, I used a
    poor primer and results were terrible requiring a complete
    stripping of the paint.

    Last year, I used the Baltic primer with the VC17 Tropicana (sp?)
    and results were much improved - 2 hours wiping some slime off with
    a nylon pad. This was after 7 months in the water with no bottom
    cleaning during the season.

    As the article in Practical Sailor says, results will vary with
    water conditions. A backwater mooring may provide different results
    than a mooring near a channel affected by currents. Baltic Marine
    said as much to me when I asked for help after the first experience.

| 256.3 | VC17 bottom paint experience ? | GVADEV::VASIC |  | Mon Apr 30 1990 10:13 | 13 |
| | With a couple of friends, we made some experiences on some boats with VC products.
- VC Offshore on older paint: Bad.
- VC Offshore on VC Light: Bad. The VC Light is still OK, but the VC Offshore
  doesn't stick.
- VC17 on VC Tar: Great.
Now, we would like to use VC17 on the boat with VC Light. Does anyone knows
if it works ? Or is it needed to sand before ? We also consider the possibility
to put some VC Tar on the VC Light, to be sure that the VC17 sticks ..
Thanks for advices ...

| 256.4 | VC17 experience ? | LEMAN::VASIC |  | Mon Apr 30 1990 14:00 | 19 |
| | Some friends and myself tried last year different combinations based
on VC products. Here are the results:
- VC Offshore on old (sanded) copper antifouling: Doesn't stick
- VC Offshore on VC Light (2-component epoxy paint): The VC Light looks
  ok, but the VC Offshore doesn't stick on it.
- VC17 on VC Tar (another 2-component anti-osmose epoxy paint): Great
All people I've heard who have tried VC Offshore are switching back to VC17.
The problem is with the boat having VC Light (VC Offshore has been removed):
What should be done before applying VC17 ?
Is it needed to sand, to apply another painting on top of VC Light (like VC Tar)
before VC17 ?
Any experience should be appreciated ...
