507.0. "Language Samples Wanted" by FASDER::MTURNER (Mark Turner * DTN 425-3702 * MEL4) Mon Jun 01 1992 12:15
	[Cross-posted in various conferences. Please circulate widely]
    I'm doing a study of natural language identification using neural net
technology, and I'm looking for on-line examples of text in as many languages
as possible. If you, or someone you know, might be able to provide examples,
I'll be grateful, and will send you the study report if you're interested.
    Here are the details of what I'm looking for:
    	. File size: 2K - 10K blocks
	. Format: ASCII, VAX document (.SDML), or DECWRITE (.DOC) are best;
	  postscript may be ok (I'll have to OCR)
	. Languages: everything *except* English, French, German, and Italian
	  (I already have good samples of these). If the text has English
	  mixed in, that's fine.
        . Access: pointers to files would be best; I'll use FTSV/SPOOL to
	  pull them over to my machine. Let's avoid MAIL, as the various
	  servers here may choke.
	. Source: anything, including manuals, reports, Notes conferences,
	  love letters, etc. is fine. No extracts or examples will appear
	  my report, and none of the text will be seen outside Digital.
    Please get in touch with me directly at FASDER::MTURNER or DTN 425-3702
(1.301.731.3702) if you might be able to help or if you have any questions.
    						Many thanks in advance,
    						Mark Turner (@MEL)

    	SNORRE::NORGE

    Is mainly Norwegian language, with a few entries in English. Does that
    do anything for you?

| 507.2 |  | BHAJEE::JAERVINEN | Bitte ein Bit? Bitte 64 Bit!! | Tue Jun 02 1992 10:04 | 6 |
| | There are quite a few notesfiles in languages other than you mentioned
    (though usually not so widely advertised, because of the smaller
    audience). For Finnish, try HSK01::FNO. Also, the VTX systems of the
    repective countrries are usually at least partially in the native
    language.

| 507.3 | Swedish | SWETSC::WESTERBACK | Mimsy were the borogroves | Tue Jun 02 1992 17:34 | 5 |
| | The only notesfile that I use which is primarily in Swedish is
    STKOFF::A1_SUPPORT, a technical conference about ALL-IN-1.
    It might be of use to you.

    Mark,

    	I have lived in sweden all my life, but just recently moved
    	to New Hampshire. I searched my memory and recalled that there
    	was/is a notes conference in Stockholm about the Swedish Language.

    	STKHLM::SVENSKA

    	Maybe you can find what you're looking for there. If you need
    	any help, I'd be happy to assist you!

    	/Kaarina Kvaavik (who still is homesick, specially around
    			  midsummer time...)

    	Ps. you can reach me at Kaarina Kvaavik @MKO or ABACUS::KVAAVIK Ds.
