| | Try calling the Finnish embassy, dept of trade, they always have
a 'trade secretary' (don't know what official title they're using
in the States [even the consulate in Munich has one]) who can
usually provide you with names/addresses of any
  agents/importers/distributors of Finnish furniture.

I assume the same would apply to the other Scandinavian embassies.

| 30.2 | The Best of Scandinavia | MANANA::DICKSON |  | Mon Jan 13 1986 13:10 | 27 |
| | On rt 101A in Amherst, NH, just west of Nashua, is a little store
called "The Best of Scandinavia". It is run by Elsie Glantz-Tofer.
Most of the stuff there is from Sweden, but there are things from
the other countries too.
No "Scandinavian Design" teak laminates here. Everything is solid
wood. I just bought a beautiful handmade hardwood desk there.
The store is small and they don't have much in stock, but they
have catalogues and can order it. They get a container from
Europe about every month.
Also check out the wooden desk lamps. No two the same. The lampshade
is thin slices from a tree (about 1/8 inch thick) across the grain,
and you can see the tree rings.
Besides furniture they also have glassware, throw rugs, flags,
posters, etc. When we went in just before Christmas, they offered
us Gloegg. (But without the extra alcohol in the traditional
recipie.)

| | Another Swedish shop, although selling no furniture, just cards,
Christmas decorations, posters, tablecloths, etc, is in a tiny
shopping area set back from the main street of Chatham, on Cape
Cod. I don't remember the name of the place. Look in the map
brochure you can pick up in most stores.
We got there a T-shirt with the legend:
        You can always tell a
               SWEDE
but you can't tell him much
(The word "SWEDE" is in much larger letters than the rest.)

| | Check out INSIDE (formally "Made in Sweden / Shelfstore"),
1771 Mass. Ave, Cambridge. (617) 492-3050. They import
-- primarily bookcases. I spoke with them a few years
ago, and they said they would consider importing other
things as well. The owners are Swedish.
