    I looked around but didn't find the answer to this question:  How
    do you keep apple slices from turning brown?  I want to make an
    apple dip and cut the apple slices ahead of time but don't know how
    to keep them from turning brown!  Thanks for your help.  Lila

    Cortland apples are reputed to stay white better than many varieties
    and are, therefore, recommended for apple salads.

|     Apples, along with bananas, pears, etc. will not turn brown if the
    slices are dipped into a lemon-lime soft drink (Sprite, 7-Up).  
    
    These drinks contain enough ascorbic acid to prevent the oxidation but
    won't add the lemon flavor (or tartness) that some object to when using
    lemon juice!
