    I have no idea concerning the quality of Jasmine Rice but there
    are testimonials in 496.*(most of 'em), 1035.6 and 2377.6.

    Well, Thai Jasmine rice is my favorite rice.  There's nothing
    peculiarly special about it, and you do cook it the same as you
    would any other rice.  I like the flavor and aroma of it, and the 
    light, fluffy way that it cooks.  I buy it in 25 pound bags at the
    Mediterranean Marketplace in Worcester Ma. (don't know where you
    live), and it only costs about $15 a bag this way.  Usually I'll
    split it with a relative, this way we end up with lots of great 
    tasting rice, with minimal expenditure.

|  |     	It's good stuff and pretty inexpensive in bulk. I cook a lot of
    Chinese, Southeast Asian, and Indian dishes at home. I usually serve
    these with either jasmine or basmati rice. Jasmine has a nice aroma but
    not an overpowering taste. So it goes well with just about anything.
    It's also a medium grain, relatively sticky rice...good with chopsticks
    if you like to eat with them. Basmati is a longer grain with a stronger
    aroma and more taste of its own. It's also more expensive. However,
    sometimes, I just gotta have my Basmati. I usually keep at least 10
    pounds of each in the kitchen cabinet.

    It's Ed Hyder's Mediterranean Marketplace, and it's located on 
    Park Avenue on the stretch between Pleasant Street and Elm Park.
    If you're coming from Pleasant street, it's on your right. Check the
    phone book under markets to get the street number.  
    
    Perhaps someone can be more specific ?

	Or, you could get Jasmine rice and others at ICHIBAN oriental market
	in Framingham just off RT 9. Just past RT 126, heading east, is 
	SHOGUN Japanese resturant and a sign pointing to Tropic Isle. Turn up
	that dead end street and ICHIBAN is above Tropic Isle, on the left.

    I just found out about another Oriental market in Worcester from my
    Thai cooking instructor.  It's located on Millbury Street.  I bought
    a 25Lb bag of Thai Jasmine rice there for $8.00 today.  
    
    The Mediterranean market on Park Ave gets 14.95 for the same item. They
    have an extensive selection of Thai and other imported items, and the 
    prices are excellent.  The name of the place is The Millbury Fish
    Market, and it also has an Oriental name like Cha Da or something.
    
    There's a public parking lot with meters opposite Maurice The Pantsman,
    and the market is on your left across the street from this parking lot.

Wash one cup of rice under several changes of water.
Bring to the boil 1 1/4 cups of water, add the rice,
turn the heat down to medium, and continue stirring
until most of the water has been absorbed.  Turn off
the heat, place the lid on top and leave for 17 mins.
Fluff the rice.
i believe this is less water then is typically used.

    Why would you want to wash the rice under several changes of water?
    The Thai Jasmine rice is vitamin enriched and washing it simply serves
    to deplete the vitamins.  The way I've been cooking it lately is to
    place 1 cup of rice in a microwave safe casserole, add 2 cups water.
    Place a wooden spoon across the top of the bowl and lay a doubled paper
    towel over the top of the bowl and spoon (the spoon keeps the paper 
    towel from falling in).  Microwave on high for 15 minutes - you may
    have to adjust the time based upon your microwave/your personal taste.
    
    It's easy and yields excellent results.

    cooker, add water up to the designated line, stir, put the lid on, and
    hit the "cook" button.
