| | Hmmm, nice idea for a topic! I have no idea what the Cheers recipe is,
but I think mine is so good, I'm putting it in here anyway! (well, at
least a couple of people have asked for it, so it's not too bad :-)
  But first, a warning: I don't include quantities, because (1) I don't
know what they are, I do it by "feel", (2) you pretty much need to
adjust it to your tastes, anyway, and (3) if I did, it wouldn't be a
secret anymore. So here's the list of ingredients, roughly in order of
  quantity:
Tomato juice (V8 won't give the same results, but isn't too bad)
Vodka (don't waste money on Stoli, but don't use rotgut, either)
  White prepared horseradish
  Lime juice
  Worcestershire sauce
  Tabasco sauce
  Celery salt
  Onion powder
  Garlic powder
  Cayenne pepper
Serve it in as big a glass as you can find with lots of ice cubes and
a celery stalk. You can use "clamato" juice or add some clam juice for
a little interest. By the way, this makes a *hot* drink (I've gotta
try that idea of putting some habanero peppers in the vodka). You can
leave out almost any ingredient except the tomato juice and vodka and
still have a bloody mary, so experiment!

| | Jackie, Which "Cheers" bar do you mean, the one that is used for the
television show ("Bull and Finch"???) or the place that is really named
"Cheers"? Does the mix come in a dry packet or is it a bottled mix?
(is this something that a local person could easily ship to you without
    risking breakage?)
Mike's recipe in -.1 is very similar to the one we use, with the
exception of using both lemon and lime juice, and also adding a bit of
oregano. A bit of clamato juice too. We have found through
experimenting that a long cucumber wedge (with peel) instead of celery
tastes better. If you like them hot, Absolute makes a vodka with hot
peppers. And, next time you come back this way, try a bloody mary at
the Oar House in Portsmouth, NH. They make one of the best!

It's reasonably safe to assume that any out-of-towners referring
to the "Cheers" bar mean the Bull and Finch pub on Beacon Hill.
Most of them don't know about the place called "Cheers".

As for getting a recipe, did you notice if the B&F souveneir shop
have a cookbook? The recipe might be in there if they do. I've
not been in there since it became a tourist attraction, but if I
think of it next time I'm on the Hill, I'll check for you.

| | I think it was the Bull & Finch pub. All I know is that it was close
to the Ritz Carlton. (I know, tourist place, but when you ARE a
tourist, that's the places you go!) Is the other pub owned by the same
people? Do they serve the same drinks?

I didn't ask about a cookbook, I never thought of that!

I do know that they sell it bottled. I don't know about dry packets!
I would take the chance of paying for someone sending a couple of bottles!
If they are packed good...they should make it!

The recipe's that are here sound wonderful! And I do remember that the
Bloody Mary that I had at the pub did have horseradish in it!

The cucumber sounds wonderful....I know what I am going to be doing
    tonight! TESTING!

I will let you know how wonderful it is!

| | re: Oar House - they not only make one of the best - I believe they
make the absolute best!!!!! One of my favorite places to take a ride
to a sunny afternoon. You can buy their bloody mary mix, however, they
will not divulge the combination of ingredients.

Now I know what I'm going to try to talk my husband into doing this
    weekend........
