| 1670.2 | No-flour recipes! | LEZAH::FARINA |  | Fri Mar 10 1989 12:24 | 11 |
| | Well, I've read the Pillsbury Bake-Off Book (winners from previous
years), and the common ingredient is Pillsbury flour. I'm not
necessarily above lying on the brand, but one of my concoctions
is a cheesecake, which contains no flour at all! The other has
a minimal amount of flour. I will check it out, in case there are
other categories, though. Nestle used to have one, too. What about
Hershey? Does anyone know of a contest sponsored by them? I've
used Hershey chocolate in my recipes, and - believe it or not -
they result in the most flavorful cakes (in these recipes anyway).
Just writing to Hershey in Hershey, PA seems a little too "loose."
That's what I'll do, if necessary, though!

| | I'm absolutely sure that if you wrote to hershey in hershey penn
the letter would get to them! Try addressing it to Public Relations
or Baking Contests or some combo.

| | I just dialled 1-800-HER-SHEY - you might try it. I got put on
hold so didn't hang long enough to ask questions, but it could be
them! If not, 800 directory assistance would would probably have
a number (800-555-1212). I'm too impatient to do letters unless
    I need the documentation!

    Good luck!

| 1670.8 | Update on Contests | LEZAH::FARINA |  | Fri Mar 31 1989 12:05 | 20 |
| | Just thought I'd mention that I called the Hershey 800 number .4
suggested, and they're for reservations in Hershey, PA. But they
directed me to a consumer hotline, and they DON'T have recipe contests.
They did, however, send me (immediately!) some brochures of Hershey
recipes, including two that contain nothing but low-cholesterol,
low-fat desserts. I haven't tried any yet, but they sound good,
and they were more than happy to send me the recipes, so if anyone
else is interested . . . Guess what? I through out their number!
But it can be obtained by calling 800-555-1212 and asking for the
800 number for Hershey Consumer Relations (or something darn close
    to that!).

I did get the latest issue of Chocolatier, though, and will be entering
my concoction in their contest. I'll also be checking out Yankee
Magazine's contest for my other "secret recipe."

I'll let you know how it goes (although Chocolatier's won't be decided
    until October!).

It was great to be a "taster" for her. I wonder if she is going
    to try again this year?

| | I have entered Chocolatier Magazine's contest (I didn't win, but they
just published my recipe in this month's issue), a Nestle contest, and
the Pillsbury Bakeoff. I haven't won any (although Nestle sent me a
cookbook for entering). I haven't heard from Nestle or Chocolatier
again, but the Pillsbury folks send me something every year to get me
to enter again. Pillsbury is in the fall. I don't remember when
Nestle's was. Chocolatier had to be entered in August for the
following spring. There is no mention of the contest in the April
issue (perhaps because they consider it the late winter issue).

If you enter any, good luck! Let us know.
