Why is it that if Wales play lowly engerlund there is
much less bad feeling than if the MIGHTY_HIGHLANDERS
play engerlund. Or am I Dreaming ??
If Wales were to beat engerlund(yeah, right), I would not
feel as agreived(SP?) as if the Hugely_skillful_but_had_a_tough_group
scots had won?
Is it to do with our posts that the Mighty_skillful_but_unlucky scots
nicked a short while back.

Go to the valleys and say that Mad...think you'll have your thoughts
suitably adjusted ! Anyway, it's far too complicated to explain away in
a reply....not being Scottish will also do nothing for your
understanding.....oh...and DON'T make the mistake of thinking that the
Scots have a monopoly on disliking anything English....oh no me old
    son....thats a world-wide phenomenon I've witnessed as I've travelled
and is triggered by their experience of being treated as part of the
"old empire" by some snot-blinded wanker who talks down to them like
being foreign was somehow a blight on their character....

I ALWAYS specify I am Scottish when I travel (partly due to the fact
that I will never recognise the union of 1707)....it's also much safer
since not too many people want to beat the crap out of me for merely
    being a Scot.

Anyway...the Welsh have more subtle tactics...to quote an old episode
    from "Not the 9 o'clock News"...."Come home to a real fire....buy a
    cottage in Wales !"

Also I wouldn't use the word hate for how we feel. Resentment....yup,
competetive....for sure. Hate only happens when you beat us at footie.

    - they think I'm Irish here ! Don't tell them though....suits me just
    fine.....

| | Yeh, OK, I think we've got the message by now, Trevor. I reckon there's
more anti-English rhetoric in this conference than discussion about
    football ;-)

For my part, I always carry a spare suit of armour when I'm doing my
globetrotting. Oh, and try to avoid talking about golf or the weather,
or drinking tea in public places.

P.S. Your report on the ladies' lawn bowls championships was, er
...thrilling. Expect a bid from Italy to host next year's event.

| | Well me, I wander about abroad (Tenerife, Playa des America. etc) with me george cross shorts and
my cap-sleeved union-jack t-shirt, with a notted hanky on my head, and my shoes & socks on,
drinking like a fish, being loud, complaining and being sick.

In my experience, the Welsh hate the English more than the Scots do.
The only place I've ever been threatened simply for being English is
Swansea - mind you, I was a student at the time so I expect I deserved
    it.

| | The same thing happened to me in Cardiff, and I certainly wasn't a
    student.

I was on my way back to Reading, pissed up from a night in London. I
ended up in Cardiff at two in the morning and they locked up the train
station. My only way out was to pay 100 for a taxi home.
