Are there any well-known club teams in Armenia and Macedonia ? It's
pretty hard to guess about their capabilty. I'm really curious.

| | How did Belgium get into the third-seed category? If it's based on
recent performances *only* then I think it's a mistake by UEFA. As .2
predicts, the Belgians are easily good enough to win the group. I bet
Spain and Denmark are seriously pissed-off as the Belgians themselves
will be. It makes all their tasks more difficult. In which seed-group
were Belgium placed for the World Cup?

It's based on the results in the last two (not sure) European Championships,
Belgium missed out on both so there it is. It might be stupid but the same
thing happens in the World Cup so ......

| | I'm in inquisitive mood. Can anyone give me the answers to the
    following :

    a) Why do Denamrk have to qualify, given that they are the holders ?

    b) With 8 groups and England pre-qualified, does this mean that only
the top team from the group with 5 teams (Switzerland, Sweden, Turkey,
?, ?) qualify, or will there be more than 16 teams qualifying ?

    Confused.

    a) Denmark have to qualify because they hadn't enough money to buy
    their place like England. 8-)

    b) From the 8 groups, 15 teams qualify as follows:

All first placed teams automatically qualify.
Best 6 2nd placed teams automatically qualify.
Remaining 2 2nd placed teams play off for the last place.

    		Wales will qualify......
.....by inciting an uprising in Moldovia which spills over
into neighbouring Georgia, Bulgaria & Albania. Then we just
have to win the play-off game against Ireland! 8-)

    re .6

Could it be that Denmark, who had failed to qualify last time out, came
on at the last minute as substitutes for Yugoslavia and in true David
    Fairclough fashion, stole the honours?

    Jerry,
Unlike the WC,the holders don't qualify automatically.

I don't know the reason behind this.Perhaps someone could enlighten
us as to why this doesn't happen.

| | spain and denmark drew 1-1 but they had both already qualified

    Not really true:
    1. Spain needed at least 1 point to be sure to be first in the group and
    automatically qualified.

    2. Denmark needed at least 1 point to become one of the better seconds

Knowing this, the second half looked like the Germany - Austria game
(WC 82 in Spain) with two teams just passing the ball amongst eachother
and making no attempt at all to score.

Very sad for the match and the spectators...

This was a very weak group with only one team making a chance in
    Euro '96.
