| | What's all the fuss anyway (I didn't see the 'offensive' note). If it
was to do with a certain elderly, overweight Jewish tycoon popping his
clogs - what's wrong with that, and it certainly isn't anything to do
with footie. (Although the sight of R Maxwell Esq wallowing onto the
pitch at Wembley was enough to put one off one's tea).

Cunno is innocent, a lot of what he writes is twaddle - but it is
ENTERTAINING twaddle, and can cause mirth...

| | Cunno off line? Tell me it isn't true. I came in this morning and the
first thing I did was login to the Pool topic anxious to read his
game report. If anything, lets make conditional:

    1) No more mention of TGA until he scores 1 for Ireland

    2) If we, those across the pond, make it to England for a spring match,
Cunno will join us for a few beers and a match. (No one should have
       to take so much punishment)

Besides, where would the Pool history, TGA status, Friday afternoon
Mancs prediction, etc, etc, come from?

I agree 100% with the last note. Cunnos note was no doubt offensive to
some people. But let him take his criticism like a man. By crying
"victimisation" he is inviting sympathy - and getting it.
 |
| 115.8 | I may not be very popular for this, but ... | ANNECY::ROWLAND_A | a slip of the tongue | Thu Nov 07 1991 18:09 | 33 |
| |

I'm sorry to say this, but I do feel that the base note does contain a
couple of inaccuracies. Most notably, anyone who chastises someone for
what they are *thinking* would have to be telepathic in the majority of
cases. You generally only know peoples' opinions by the things that
they *say*, or have *said* previously.

Now, in most "civilised" parts of this world, a man is entitled to
state his opinion, or whatever, on what he likes. Freedom of thought,
freedom of speech, and all that. Great. What this issue boils down to
is that IT ISN'T ALWAYS APPROPRIATE to do that. I'll give you an
example. The man writing this note once dropped an *enormous* bollock
at a social gathering by telling a "Terry Waite" joke, albeit
unwittingly, in front of one of said Mr Waite's very good friends.
Needless to say this caused a great deal of embarrassment, and upset
the people concerned. The point is, had I known, I'd never have done
it. The point HERE is that you never know who might be reading these
conferences. What may be entered as a piece of idle banter can,
conceivably, upset an unwitting reader. IF that happens, it clearly
contravenes Notes rules, and as such, the Mod did his job in this case.

Cunno has not been persecuted into leaving this conference. The title
of this topic really is, in all honesty, a bit silly - this isn't about
a crime, for f****' sake. If the man is "guilty" of anything at all,
then it is nothing more than a slight error of judgement on his part.
The sooner he wakes up to this fact and starts contributing again the
better, as far as I'm concerned. It's only been a day and I'm already
missing the old bullshit... Not to mention the fact that the Scousers
    actually WON for once !!!!

| | I agree with .5, .7 and .8. In football terms Martin has had a yellow
card for what in the ref's opinion was a foul. If every footballer who
thought he'd been booked unfairly game up the game we'd soon have no
    one playing it.

News just in..... I was showing Cunno somthing on the system last evening when
I "accidently" went in to the football notes. Yes, he has read the note 115 and
its replies and I would say that he is rather chuffed at the whole sordid
thing. Carring on on matters Cunno, on the announcement of "Deanos" supposed
move to Leeds, Cunno announced that for the Five million quid spent on a
striker that cannot score goals, and a defender who has not kicked a ball all
season, Souness SHOULD have bought "Guess who" instead of the pair and put the
rest of the money towards a Cunno apprication society.....
HE WILL BE BACK, BELIEVE ME, HE WILL BE BACK.......maybe not today, maybe not
tommorow, but soon, and for the rest of his life.

As a non-British noter, i have always enjoyed reading all the bullshit about
how wonderful certain brittish clubs and players are. If my english was a bit
better, i would explain to all of you;
- That Glenn Hysn is slower than a three-legged donkey
- That John Barnes wouldn't fit in a second-division team in Norway
- That a English international without at least 10 dives inside the penalty
  area is a miracle
- Why half the swedish people falls asleep at about 16.20 every saturday
during the "Tipsextra"-season (live English 1st-division football)
- How it comes that people from Malm don't know anything about
football (they don't know anything about NOTHING)
- That during the next decade, Sweden will win Euro-92, WC-94, Euro-96,
  WC-98 AND Euro-2000
But, since i am a quiet and well-raised person, i stick to adding info such
as how much a parking-spot costs in Gothenburg and what the distance between
Stockholm and Norrkping are.
I have always felt that there is a balance in this conference between serious
discussions and crap, and that's why it's so exiting to enter it every morning.
For those of you who have the gift of writing funny, sarcastic and
inspirational notes, keep up the good work!!!!!!! But be careful when
you comes close to the boarder-lines...
Mats
P.S. I have never met TGC or TGA, but i have met TGB (The Great Brolin).
Perhaps if we could convert Cunno to true Swedoism, he would enter
        again? D.S.
P.P.S. How do you know that Liverpool is playing a home game?

My dream as a little kid was to become a professional footballplayer somewhere
in Europe, especially in Holland (they where the greatest in the mid 70s). I
shared that dream with many of my friends, team-mates and players in other
teams. Some of them did make it, many of us found out that theres much other
pleasures in life than playing football. As a 16 year old kid in a major club
in Stockholm, you had to practice 7 days a week and at the same time try to
keep up with scool. So my carreer went the opposit way, Div1, div3, div5 and
now occasionally div7 reserves. But i'm not unhappy for that. I rather enjoy
playing and practice 2-3 time/week and going out with my friend for a beer on
friday evening.
Swedish football is not professional, and that has always been a disadvantage
for us. I know that a amateurplayer becoming a pro, develops a lot of skills he
wouldn't have if he stayed home, but i truely beleive that if there was a
professional leauge in Sweden, they would become even better. We share that
problem with many countries, and its fortunate for professional countries to
have a goldmine to dig in and get the best pieces. Some of the Swedish clubs
(Malm and Gteborg) are half professional and kids can go to football-college,
but we can never compete with the major clubs in Europe when it comes to money.
Perhaps in a few years when we joined the Common Market, we can pay our own
players the same amount of money as the rest of Europe and even buy players
from other countries. In the mean time, i think it's a good thing to export
players to Europe, as i said, their performance will improve.
What im am trying to say with my beginning is that if we had professional
football in Sweden when i was young, i would had a bigger chance to earn a
living doing something i enjoyed most. Now that i'm 15 yars older, i'm lucky
to have an education and a job i can continue to work with to my pension.
Well, what have to offer to Europe? The Swedish team for the olympics are
full with talent players, and they have been doing well lately. A win against
Greece away next wednesday and we are practically threw for the next round.
My favourite is a defender, Johan Mjllby. He is tall and fast and very strong
in the air. Also there is Pascal Simson, a striker with great dribling capacity.
Both plays for AIK, a team from Solna outside Stockholm. They will be in the
ECWC next season. In IFK Gterborg there is Hkan Mild, A strong midfielder with
great potential. And there's also Fredik Gisecke, a junior striker with the same
scoring-capabilicy as Thomas Brolin.
Johnny Ekstrm came back to Sweden after sitting on various french benches
during the last years, and he has been doing exremely well in IFK Gteborg. I
think he would love a second chance in Europe. Trade him for Magnusson for
example. How is Thern doing, and what have happened to Magnusson? The last i
saw of him was agaist Brazil in the first round in WC90.

| | Getting back to the Cunno situ..

As a new and occasional noter, I missed the cunno incident, so I can
only go by the earlier notes here.

I read the situ as ....Cunno enters a dodgy note , the note offends
someone, the note is hidden, cunno 'leaves' the conference.

Is this how it is ?? If so...

As was mentioned earlier, within reasons, we have the ability of free
speech..but in notes we have to be sensitive to the rules and regs.
Cunno has made the decision not to note anymore, he has excercised his
right...he has the option to return at any time..I hope he does.

If he has been 'banned' then I can think of a few (one in particular)
noters who should be banned before cunno...see 47 and 48 as examples.

can someone clarify the situ for me.??

As one fortunate (?!) to have read Martin's ramblings before they
got bombed, the situation is pretty clear to me..

Martin enters absolutely ridiculous note ;-) suggesting all manner
of reasons why Uncle Bob "died mysteriously", and as you would
expect the main one involved TGD.

Someone pointed out that this "speculation" might offend anyone
remotely related to Maxwell (and I guess it would have...) and the
note was hidden. Martin probably realises he went a little far and
apologises for upsetting anyone - though I doubt anyone *really*
was offended, I certainly wasn't 8-) - and quits the football note.

No one "threw him out"...he chose to blub. He would be welcomed
back by some and not missed by others. It's his choice. Why the
big fuss? Probably because it's such a surprise that a seemingly
thick-skinned blind-red eejit got so upset over something so
trivial 8-) I think it's because he knows his beloved Anfield

Never fear my son, the Great one has spoken to me through a medium. He has
assured me that "Cunnovitis" will strike this conference again in the near
future... The Aldoism sect will be the responsible party for bringing this
deadly vermin back into our lives, with the advent of a strike by TGA to
save Irelands position in Group 7. If that result does not favour our
mutual friend he will haunt the vaults of this conference in search of an
explaination from our English counterparts as to why they could qualify
for the competition ahead of the team TGA plays for. The 25 goal mark note
still looms also so please beware. The football topic will be added again
to the vax account of one ESSB::MCUNNIFFE regardless of the result in group 7.

| | Just this minute recieved my photo. Cunno seems to be going for the
Paul McCartney fringe by the looks of it. As for TGA's moustache, well,
there's always a career for him in the army when he hangs up his
    footy boots.
